My wife and I were searching for an apartment in Myrtle Beach and saw Canterbury Apartments online. We drove down from NC and viewed the property along with many others. I have to say that the SECOND we drove onto the property we immediately saw how SCARY this placed looked!! It looks like a THUG haven or DRUG ALLEY. There were several tenants walking around and they all looked like they were about to car-jack us. The apartments have balconys and almost every single one had clothes haning off of them and other stuff... Place is a #*$( Hole from He11 no kidding. My wife and I just drove the car out of the place as fast as we could and THANKED GOD we did not have to live in a place like that!! DO NOT RENT HERE unless you are a drug dealer and enjoy the getto environment.

I just moved out of canterbury...and I'm very happy about that. During my stay there, I had 2 floods, both of which were not my fault. The 2nd and 3rd floor water heaters burst during the middle of the night 2 separate times. Once during mid-terms... the 1st was so bad I had to but placed in a new apartment for a few days. The 2nd time, I was sick with the flu and it was duing the winter... water poured from every lighting fixture in the place and literally 30 gallon trash containers were filling up in 1/2 hour at a time. The carpet was pretty trashed after being ripped up so that the maintenance men could have air blowers over our carpet for 2 days to "dry" it out.. there quick fix for a serious problem. Anyway, while packing to to move out this past decemeber, I realized that the coat rack that was directely under the fire alarm where water had poured out of twice, left a rust mark in the carpet. I when to the Canterbury main office to tell them about the mark and I was assured by 3 different employees... Barbra the head manager also told me that the carpet would be changed and removed at no cost to me. I had left my apartment as clean as an apartment that has been lived in for over a year could be, I believe the apartment looked better then it did when I moved in. When I moved in we had a huge problem with roaches that Canterbury really didnt seem to care about, I was forced to handel the issue myself because they were no help. Also our AC had to be change 3 times, once because it had flames shooting out of it... and what does Canterbury do with defective AC... place them into unoccupied apartments... until the next lucky renter moves in and complains out a faulty AC unit... Anyway after moving out I expected to get my deposit back... i did not.... there charges were insane... $10 to clean a ceiling fan... $20 for a dirty dishwasher... ect... I had left my apartment clean and presentable...I was also charged for the carpet.. the said that I had $754.00 in damages done to an apartment... that I paid $460 a month for... So after moving out I had to pay another $367.00 to Canterbury on top of the deposit that I did not get back... My thoughts on Canterbury are this... yes they are cheap and good for a college student... but as a student myself I can not afford to live a such a rip off apartment complex. I spoke with the district manager Brent and asked him if I could go on a payment as (i am a full time student) and I still have another apartment bill now to pay in NJ... he told me Canterbury does not do that and i was forced to pay for all the damages... even the carpet that was clearly not my fault... i think its gross and unhealthy that Canterbury wanted to keep that carpet in the first place... for the sake of saving $$ on their half... black mold arises from dampness.. in the hotter months when this all took place they would not change the carpet for me when i was living there and were perfectly content with not changing it when i moved...their issue was with the rust stain left by my metal coat rack that rusted do the the 2 floods that I had. As a renter I would not recommend Canterbury Apartments.. in fact i'm in the process of contacting the BBB about my case with Canterbury.. I would say if you do decide to live there dont expect your deposit back and do expect many more charges after you leave.. Canterbury basically sucks... move to Flint Lake instead
