Awful new management and ownership

I moved into Palmetto Pointe Apt. Homes in January of 2002. The complex was built in 2000. My apartment was new, and no one had resided in it prior to me. I was in the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom unit and rented a garage as well. TCR owned and managed the property at this time until approximately September 2005. It was a great place to live until that time. Like most apartments in the area, they weren't built with total noise exclusion especially if you resided on the first or second floor. Hence, the reason I lived on the third floor. The maintenance and onsite managers were very helpful and professional. They always followed through on maintenance issues as well as complaints. If a resident had been there for any length of time, they would opt to reduce or compensate you on the new lease due to being a great resident and paying on time. In the Fall of 2005, the decline in the quality of residents and customer service was evident. The owners sold the complex, and the onsite managers and maintenance that had been there for my five years immediately left. It was replaced by unprofessional, rude and condescending property managers. They didn't appreciate a tenant who had resided there for five years and paid on time and even months in advance and who was not a nuisance to management or the neighbors. It appeared that the requirements to become a resident had diminished also. One good aspect was the updated, new fitness equipment that was installed. Also, be aware that when you attempt to comply with the 60-day notice of moving, the management will charge for the "common" incidentals which any landlord would entail or take out of the security the deposit (i.e., change blinds, carpet, locks, painting). I had lived there for five years, not one. Nothing was wrong with the unit. I had not defaced or destroyed any portion of the walls, windown coverings, kitchen appliances or countertops, etc. Yet, they wanted to charge me for what was standard responsibilities of the landlord. By the way, the blinds and carpet looked as good as it did when I moved it. Painting, changing locks, cleaning, etc. are normal responsibilities of the owner and not the leasee. Good luck to anyone who wants to deal with the new management and the overall population of residents who seem to move to Myrtle Beach to go to school, party and be obnoxious rather than respect the neighbors and the fact that there are professionals who live and work here as well.
