My wife and I have lived in Amber Hoods off and on for quite a while. Really the only thing this place has going for it is the relatively cheap rent and the close proximity to work. Other than that this place really sucks. However, if you re an entomologist you may love it here. We ve had all kinds of pest problems since moving in; mainly ants, termites, spiders and the occasional cockroach. The management has said that exterminators are available upon request . So I guess this apartment is being devoured by termites because the owners don t want to pay for preventive maintenance. Why treat for pest on a regular basis when you can save a few dollars by treating the problems as they occur. Freaking brilliant! As mentioned in the other comments, the electric bills are usually pretty high because of the cheap construction, lack of proper insulation, inadequate attic venting, and old single pain windows.

And then there s the neighborhood itself. Having several cop cars parked in front of your apartment doesn t deter the thieves around here. Keep your stuff locked up or it will disappear. Overall I hate Charleston and South Carolina, especially after living in Amber Hoods. But I did it to myself, all to save a buck. I said (in the questionnaire) that I would recommend Amber Hoods to a Friend, and I have. I tell them the truth about this place and let them decide for themselves. One friend moved in and is relatively happy and one friend didn t (lucky bastard). The one that didn't got a very nice apartment in The Legends just up Dorchester. So there you have it, you have been warned. Amber Hoods is strictly rent at your own risk.

I ll try to update this post after I move (within a few months) to let you know how that goes.
