Great place to live!

North Bluff is wonderful! We?re military and thus needed some extra attention since we did most of the arranging from a distance. They did all they could to help us. Every staff member I have met from the office managers to the maintenance staff has been very nice and very helpful. In fact, (in addition to the rent) the staff member we first met was so nice, she had a lot to do with why we chose this property!
The neighborhood is at the end of a street with four other complexes. It?s quiet and peaceful with marvelous landscaping. They do all the little extras - spraying down the entry/front walk areas when there?s lots of pollen, trimming the hedges and grass regularly, and sprucing up the grounds here and there. Maintenance requests are responded to promptly by friendly and very capable staff. When it was built, there must have been great attention paid to the trees because there are some tall old trees close to the apartment buildings. Dumpsters are spaced out well.
Neigbors are very nice - seems to be mostly college students, retirees, and military students at the nearby training facility. We?ve never heard anyone being rowdy or anything. It?s safe too - we?ve left a bike outside unsecured on occasion and we still have it! I rated security a four - I don?t think there is a professional security patrol, but it?s safe so far and I dont want to bring the average down.
North Bluff is less than a half mile from the main road through North Charleston, Rivers Ave. The mall is less than two miles away and there are two grocery stores in that radius too. Getting to I-26 East into downtown is a breeze (all right turns, less than a mile), but getting to I-26 West is a bit of a trick with road construction and a distance of about three miles. Most of the town is east of here though, we only go west if we?re travelling.
The only thing that might annoy people is the complex?s proximity to Charleston Air Force Base. It has a lot of cargo plane traffic, and they make a loud low pass every now and then. It?s not like there?s fighter jets coming in and out though. I stoppped noticing it very quickly and I think it?s kind of cool! Also, the noise through the floors/ceilings is there, I?ve had worse and I have had better in other apartments. It?s noticable, but not unlivable. Again, I don?t even notice it most of the time. And it?s only a floor/ceiling thing - we never ever heard the people next door. I am rating it 4 stars in that category as an average.
The biggest thing I don?t like is that there is no phone jack in the living room. We have to use a cordless phone in there and string a wire from a bedroom to the computer in the living room. I think they would let me have a new jack installed, but I didn?t feel like paying for it. We have DSL and had no line problems. Multiple lines are possible.
The interiors are the nicest I have ever seen in an apartment! They are gradually adding crown moulding and beautiful ivory paint to all of the units as people move out. It makes a very elegant touch.
Applicances are just fine - electric stoves. We have own W/D and the space is such that you can only use the side by side ones - there?s a shelf above W/D area for storage. I?ve never used the laundry facility and I am rating it a four - there?s a lot of machines in there.
We will miss North Bluff and hope we have as good of an experience wherever we move next!
