An OLD CREAKY DUMP
From: dielandevelopers@aol.comDate posted: 11/16/2006
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
At first sight when you walk into one of the apartments you're immediately impressed by the townhome style living-- you have an upstairs and downstairs. You think, "Oh my god! We get to have an upstair...and a downstairs for less than six hundred bucks a month!". However, once you move in, you realize what a fool you were because you didn't look closer. You didn't look under the downstairs bathroom sink and see the rotting wood. The rotting wood from a continuous drip that's probably been going on since the early 1980s. You also didn't look under the sink in the kitchen which has a similiar leak....
Enough of my sarcasm, yes' Listen, this place is a total DUMP. My girlfriend and I moved in three weeks ago and we're ready to break the lease. First thing we noticed was that these apartments are NOT "recently renovated" as FALSELY advertised on the billboard off the main road. The only renovations this place has gone under was that a new rug was thrown down (the only good thing about this place) and a guy came by and painted the place before we moved in. Now, when I use the word "paint..." I use that word very delicately. What I really mean is that the guy came in with a paint gun and painted everything except the parking lot outside. What a terrible job. Paint drip marks are everywhere you look. One of my phone jacks was completely painted over and had to be replaced.....this guy might be blind.
The interior of the place is old and worn down. The upstairs floor creaks and moans everywhere you step. I almost want to move out of my bedroom so I don't wake my girlfriend up in the morning with my unintentionally loud footsteps. I've tried crawling, walking on my heels, everything.....The cabinets and appliances are old. The only way the refrigerator keeps anything cold is if it's on 10. I can't wait to get my electric bill (sarcasm).
The flooring in the dining room and kitchen area was done in such a half-ass manner. The flooring actually didn't touch the wall. There was a lip with a gap that a maintanence guy had to seal with some silicon. Took him about a week and half to show up. Not his fault, but I'll get to that later....
Another thing that didn't work and that wasn't fixed until today (four weeks later) was our downstairs bathroom. Four weeks we had to wait to have it fixed.
The windows and doors are extremely old and need to be replaced. So much cold air gets in between the huge cracks it's ridiculous. Luckily, it's been pretty warm or else my electric bill, again, would be enormous.
For the first week there was nothing and then......BOOM!!!-- COCKROACHES....BIG ONES. For the last three weeks I've killed at least two or three roaches a day. The exterminator has been in here twice already. Nice guy. Told me roaches are common here in the south. There's also been a ton of earwigs (pinchers). The earwigs don't bother me so much because they're tiny and move slowly. The roaches on the other hand are pretty big and quite fast. I have no idea if it's only this place or if there are roach problems everywhere in Spartanburg. Be warned!
Management here is terrible. The woman, Avril that works in the office is pretty rude and has a major attitude problem. One day she was supposed to come and do the walk-around with us, so we could show her the things wrong with the apartment. She tells us that she's going to be here between 12:15 and 12:30. She didn't show up until 3:30. Now, if you're going to be late that's fine, but try calling! Then, when she does show up, I open the door and she just barges right past me and starts walking around MY apartment! So rude! If you ever see Avril walking around the development you can tell by looking at her that she's a MAJOR female dog. We were so appauled by her behavior that we called her boss in Greenville, Miss Turnbo, and complained about her. Miss Avril has done a slightly better job since.
The day we moved in there was no maintenance man on the premisis. They've got a new guy now and he seems to be quite friendly and efficient. However, he's the ONLY maintenance guy at Magnolia. I feel bad for him.
I've already seen a drug deal go down. Two dudes were walking around outside my apartment, my girlfriend were pulling into our parking space when we saw one guy give another guy some cash in broad daylight. The one guy looked pretty "warn out" if you will. He didn't have shoes on and was walking around with his shirt open in November.
Oh yeah...another bad thing here is the laundry room. Waaaay too expensive. The dryer especially.
They also force cable on you here. The cable line is already running in the apartment when you move in. You have NO options with regards to television. The have some kind of deal with Charter cable. The cable is included with the rent. To be honest, I don't even know if that's legal.
The only decent thing about living here is the convenience factor:
-You're close to I-26, 29, and I-85.
-Supermarkets, Walmart, Westgate Mall and other shopping centers are very close by. You'll spend very little gas driving around to get what you need.
-Parking here doesn't seem to be too much of an issue. Although, there has been an abandoned car outside my front door since I moved in. I told Avril (the property manager) about it. Do you think she did anything about it yet'
Overall this place is a dump. STAY AWAY!
Wish I had.
