When we first came to Spartanburg, we drove around to several apartment complexes- or rather, we drove THROUGH several. Alot of them were COMPLETELY GHETTO, like Crown Pointe and the one across from it- we were afraid to make eye contact with the people standing outside-GROWN MEN DRINKING OUT OF PAPER BAGS WHILE SITTING ON THE SLIDE AT THE PLAYGROUND!!! So when we found Magnolia Townhomes, we were SOOO excited to see a quiet place that seemed well-kept, in a convenient location across and next door to shopping and restaurants, the perfect size for my little family, and all within our budget! The ditzy girl in the office showed us the 2br townhome model and we fell in love with it. Boy were we ever idiots! When we came back a month later to pick up the keys and move in (we had a carload of stuff and had driven 30 minutes to get here), we found out that she had mistakenly given us a place without washer/dryer connections (one of my MUST HAVES on the survey which SHE personally gave us and filled out IN FRONT OF US on day 1. So now we've got a car full of stuff and nowhere to put it. Well, the manager seemingly so nice and accomodating, told us we could leave it there in one of their vacant apartments until ours was ready (the next day). SO, we do this and actually return a couple days later with the rest of our stuff. Well, our new apartment which had supposedly just been cleaned was the FILTHIEST, MOST DISGUSTING -------- I HAVE EVER HAD TO SET FOOT IN IN MY LIFE! The entire place smelled like dog poop. My husband happened to bend down to put something on the floor, and lo, and behold, the entire carpet, which had supposedly just been freshly shampooed, wreaked of dog pee. Or perhaps the smell came from the poopy baby diaper I found intentionally stuck to the wall behind the refridgerator (imagine if I had not pulled it back to use the outlet!). The smell was so bad that it even stuck to the glass storm door and wouldn't come off until I'd scrubbed it with Clorox. The kitchen cabinets had all kinds of dirt and even rat droppings inside. The hood of the stove was yellow with years old grease and the light didn't work. The thermostat was not working, so we ran nonexistent heat for the first 2 days trying to heat the place up (in the middle of winter), before we realized that no hot air was coming out of the vents. You can imagine my power bill for that month. By the way, since then, the heat has gone out 4 times. The first 2 times, the maintenance guys were very quick to come and fix it, but the 3rd time I called their emergency line (no heat in the middle of the night and 26 degrees outside), all I got was a voicemail recording. They didn't call me back that night. In fact, they didn't come and would not return my calls for 3 days. My 1yr old got sick because of that. And the last time the heat went out, the guy told me he wasn't going to fix it because it was almost spring. Excuse me, but it's still 40 degrees outside and you say it's spring' I don't think so! Half the outlets don't work. There's a leak from the upstairs bath that goes directly to the kitchen cabinets where I'm supposed to keep my food. I only pray that it's from the tub and not from the visible crack in the toilet bowl. They've sealed it twice to no avail. There were fleas and major roach infestation when we first moved here, but since the exterminator came, thank god I haven't seen anything. All the cabinetry in the house is CHEAP PLASTIC (have you ever seen this before' I have NOT!!)! Should I go on' Let me finish with this. It's convenient to everything. It's quiet and SOME of the neighbors aren't too bad. The grounds are pretty well kept by the guy who spews grass and sticks onto our back patio with his monster lawnmower and piles leaves against the building to rot every weekend. The maintenance guys, all 2 of them, are very nice and for the most part try their best, but what can they do with a place that has been mismanaged and is in such disrepair' Some of the office staff is RUDE and gives MAJOR ATTITUDE when you try to complain about anything more than once. Oh, did I mention their lovely habit of tacking notices on people's doors for all to see (not even FOLDED or in an ENVELOPE)- and half the time they're NOT EVEN YOURS!!! So now everyone thinks you don't pay your bills!!! I could go on forever. ALl in all, this place is a nightmare, and I can't wait till my lease is up!
