On a positive note, the apartments are big. Especially if you live on the top floor w/ the vaulted ceilings. If you play golf, there is no initiation fee, and the course is great, cheap (w/ a montly membership, not pay-as-you-go), and the course is not crowded at all.
Yes, the rent is high for Wescott, but in Summerville either you pay $800s for relative safety, or $600s, to have your car broken into every night.
The only problem is, that many people from the $600s-type apartments are all moving to Wescott. Unfortunately, their friends and family come with them, so essentially you have a bunch of low-level criminals in nice apartments.
The result' Poorly supervised children, and people stealing anything that isn't nailed down, occasionally breaking into cars or suspiciously loitering at odd times of the day and night.
The management' They act like you are taking them away from sitting on their rumps. I guess when I am paying $850/month, I expect things that are broken to be fixed, or to be able to pick up a simple package left there. Once you sign the lease, it is a crap-shoot as to whether they will help you with anything but a surly attitude.
Maintenance is ok, but weird. I guess they fix things right if you can find them (Oh yeah, they are in the weight room watching TV all day!)
Watch out! The traffic is horrible during rush hour on Dorchester Rd, and it will get about 10 times worse when all the new construction is done - no exaggeration!
Get a top floor apartment! They are the only quiet ones, from what I hear. I can not hear much of anything outside unless it is a lawn mower, or fireworks (once again, the poorly supervised kids).
There seems to be plenty of parking, schools are Dorchester II, and we are a short distance from Walmart, and other shopping.
If you have flex-hours at work and can beat the gridlock in the AM or PM, or work in Summerville (go against rush hour), Wescott may be alright for you. If you work in Charleston, or Mt. P, go ahead and move closer in. You won't save any money or headaches over any other apts.
