Constant management changes, poor conditions, AVOID

I have lived at Somerset for a year now. When we first moved in the apartment wasn't ready for us to move into. We had been paying rent for five days, yet the apartment was still not ready. Wouldn't have been a big problem but we were moving in from Ohio and had all of our stuff in our van and a U-haul.
Management/ownership at Somerset changes all the time. They do not return your phone calls. They will not fix or cleanup anything. There is garbage everywhere. Broken pieces of furniture and broken pallets in the woods were kids can get hurt.
Our countertops were painted with flat white paint....a health hazard. Our toilet leaked for a long period of time. They came in and fixed it but forgot to put the rubber washers on the bolts. Now there is mold in the linoleum. According to the major there are new studies about mold and mold is safe. Hmmmm.....
I had to fix the toilet problem. I had to defrost our air conditioner because it didn't work.
Numerous people have and are moving out due to poor management.
Currently, Somerset is in the process of trying to raise the rent and add surcharges that didn't exist before. We have two dogs, according to management someone told them that we had three.
Now they want to do surprise inspections on the apartments...which I believe is illegal. Furthermore, they want an extra $20 per month per pet. As well as, an extra $200 deposit per pet.
As far as your deposit goes....forget about it. They will never return your deposit.
They closed the bathroom by the pool because someone had an accident on the floor. It was too much trouble to clean it up.
We have to call the health department about the mold. I am positive it is not "safe".
Most of the outdoor lights in the complex do not work. Last night there were downed wires coming from one of the lights right in front of the complex.
Some people leave bags of garbage just laying about. People don't pick up after their dogs. I have two dogs and always have bags with me.
One of our kitchen cupboard shelves broke, breaking our dishes and cutting me in the process. I had to fix the problem.
Also, when we moved in the carpet and the laundry room smelled horribly of cat urine. They eventually cleaned the carpet in one spot and repainted the laundry room floor. We had to spent over $50 in specialty odor remover products to get the cat smell out. We had to repeatedly clean the carpet.
We had a broken window that didn't get fixed for over six months. Our kitchen sink leaks onto the floor. It was "fixed" once. Not properly.
Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. We found a home to rent and the management company asked us what is going on over there, you are the fourth person we've had from Somerset this week. I told her to expect more. She told me, "Good, we need to rent more houses".

Totally Agree, There was even a dirty Queen sized mattress left in our apartment when we moved in. Umm, that's kind of hard to miss. Our AC/Furnace blew up (smoke an all) and it took them 4 days to get someone out - it was December and I have a small child - nice. Glad we are gone! |
