Roach haven!!! Can't wait to leave. They make it very hard to get out of your lease but fail to control pests, very noisy, and the litter is unbelieveable. Dead rats near trash receptacles. Parents don't control their kids and management only sends notices, rarely do they back up their threat. It looks like trailer trash lives here. The complex has really gone downhill in the last year or so. Maintenance crew is reliable and quick to respond but it sometimes takes more than once to fix a problem. In all fairness it's not the maintenance crew (they're great) it's the apartments. They really need to be updated, fumagated, and more selective about tenants.

Dead Rats lying around are, I believe, a DHEC ISSUE because of the high rate of disease and they could have been posion which is a hazard to small children. Plus, rats are hardy animals, I would be concerned about why there are dead rats in near the trash recptalcle.Call heatlth dept and I believe you will find that the roach problem may be also. Also look through your contract to see if it says anything about how they are to keep up the grounds and what road of compliants can you follow. If they are not holding up their end of the bargin then you may have cause to break your lease and make them pay for moving you!! You have rights also!!

You would do well to consult the South Carolina Landlord Tenant Act which governs leasing in South Carolina. There are very specific details on what is required to break a lease. Like the previous poster said, you can call DHEC about about the rats. Written requests or complaints with you keeping copies of all requests and complaints is a good place to start. There are specific legally mandadte steps that the management must follow in addressing rowdy residents, etc. It is not a simple as a notice, and then an evicition.
