Overpriced for supposed "Luxury"

I lived here for two years, during which time the ownership went from a group,to an individual who used to be part of the group.Since the change, there has been a change of residents from older well-to-do retirees, to younger, multiple residents per apartment, to afford the ever increasing rents. It seemed like I had simply moved into a lower quality place, with simply more square footage. You will hear your neighbors,so it's built just like any other place.Nothing special.

My major gripes concern the Management, and how they treated their residents.

For instance, many of the people who moved out, told us that they never received ANY of their $500 deposit back, and some had actually gotten large bills for the supposed "damage" they had caused. They found fault with everyone we knew, regarding their apartment. As a matter of fact, the current rental contract does not even include a "wear and tear" clause,so if you sign it,good luck.

They advertise a heated, underground parking garage, but in the two winters here,we never saw the heaters running, and the temperature was basically what nature, and the first floor apartments, provided. Some mornings, the garage felt colder than the outside temperature.

Regarding outside parking, there is plenty, but watch out for what you want to park there. You can expect them to have issues with anything like a trailer,camper,boat,jet-skis,or anything out of the ordinary. I got the feeling that they didn't want anything out front that wasn't "high end",or pre-approved. If they didn't like it,you could bet that you would get a note taped to your vehicle,or a phone call telling you to move it.

The rules for living there seemed to be constantly in flux. We often got the feeling that we were not living in an apartment, but sharing a house with a roommate, constantly looking over your shoulder.Calls to the Manager were often deferred to the owner,so very seldom was there a direct answer to our concerns ,or problems. The maintenance staff also seemed understaffed or simply unable to handle the repairs requested by our resident friends. For the money we paid for rent,we expected more service, for this region of the country.

Overall,if you have the $975 plus utilities for monthly rent, and the $500 for a deposit,we highly recommend buying a condo,or a nice smaller house. This apartment complex is simply too expensive for what you get,and housing is still excellent in Rapid City, for that monthly amount.

I currently live here and have noticed alot of the same things mentioned in the previouse comment on sandstone. I almost would compare it to living in a prison as fare as the management. They are always walking around looking for something to complaine about and putting notes on residents doors . the snow removal was awefull . the noise is awfull if you live below someone . there is one resident who slams her sliding door about 8 to 10 times in a row 3 times a day and at night sounds like she is bowling . several attemps have been made and months later it is still going on not to mention the shaking of rugs and the dirt and dust going into the apartments below . If you are just a renter here you will also be degraded as they think renters are worthless and feel they cause problems , which is very untrue . for the price you pay to live here in luxory renters need more respect . There are alot of nice people who live here but since management switched over it has taken a turn for the worse . I would not advise anybody to live here unless some mager changes take place .

I have lived at sandstone Ridge for 2 years and have not been overly impressed . People are not friendly at all and will not say hi when by passing one another ususally . I live on the third floor down from a lady that is probably 68 years old or 70 who lives alone . The sliding screen doors to the deck she is always slmaming back and forth several times a day . It is very annoying and have complained to management several times which nothing has ever been done . If I run my central air she makes a pointe to slam her door or windows which is very uncomfortable and scares me . Yhey do not care if there is a serious complaint around her which many have also said when discussing this . I also know another tennant who lives here that says when they run there vacuum the person aboves them pounds on the ceiling . Very uncomfortable living arragmnets here

Many things have changed at Sandstone over time. It has gone from an appartment complex run by a company to individually owned condo units, some owner occupied, some used for rental properties. Many promises were made to the buyers... not all were true. What you have left is each unit managed by it's owner or who ever they hire and all-- owner and renter alike-- are subject to the homeowners board, where the few rule the many, and not always with input from the "subjects". As for the location and design, it is set up very well for someone with limited mobility and has very nice amenities. Maintenance in the common areas and snow removal is still so so, in each unit maintenance depends on the individual owner, which can be good. I hear the others loud and clear about the lack of friendliness... I do think it has improved some... and it takes two to tango... so I hope new people coming in are ready to be outgoing and can help the timid ones already there come out of their shell.
