Poor management, noisy apartment

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

I moved into Kingsport in October 2008 because a friend referred me to it. My apartment is a 2 bedroom/1 bath. I WAS paying 720 at the time I moved in. Since then they have rasied the rent. It's 740 for a year lease, not sure for a 6 month and 775 for a month to month. Are you kidding me' When I moved in, I was disgusted. The tenents before me had clearly not cleaned and the managers didn't go to the trouble of doing it either. I felt gross walking on the carpets that they supposively had cleaned. I don't get apartments that make you move in when it's disgusting, but it is suppose to be perfect when you move out' When I moved in they were "finishing up" construction. I was assured it'd be done by the end of October. It wasn't. My fiance and I had to listen to the guys outside our window listening to music and cursing every morning for a good month. There is a burn on our countertop that has been there since I moved in. I was told it would be fixed and it never was. Our laundry room door was broken when I moved in and has broke twice since. Our bathroom door lock doesn't work and when I told them to fix it they said it wasn't broken. This week they came to change furnice filters and you are suppose to leave things you need done by the sink. I left two things and neither got fixed. They also left my door unlocked and I didn't come home until the next day. While being there, they have changed managers 3 times. I was never informed any of the times. One day I called and it was a different manager. They have a pool and fitness room, but the pool is always cold and dirty and the fitness room has poor equipment. There is always children running up and down the hallway. I got a complaint one time at 7 at night while 4 friends of mine were playng the Wii. Really' I hear loud music and kids screaming all the time, do they get complaints' Also I ordered a package while living there and someone who works there signed for it making it their responsibility. Nobody from the apartment complex phone to let me know it was there or slipped a note under my door. I was concerned that I hadn't gotten my package for a long time, so I called UPS. They said someone had signed for it (gave me the name) and I called them. He said he was unsure of what happened to it, but would get back to me, however he never did. After several times of my dad and I trying to call him, I finally just took how much the package was worth out of my rent. I cannot wait to get the hell out of this apartment. 10 more days! Thank God. I am moving into a brand new apartment for 750 a month and it's two bedroom two bath. It is also larger then my current apartment. I can't wait to not feel dirty everytime I walk on my carpet. Don't let the nice exterior fool you. This place is trash!

I have to disagree. I will agree with the fact that when we saw the apartment it was in really bad condition, but when we moved in the apartment was TOTALLY refurbished. There was new carpeting, new paint on the walls. And they said if there was anything wrong, they came immediately and looked at it, told us what they could do, and fixed it within that week, if not within two days. The managment is awesome, he is always available to come help or look at something that may be wrong and always says hi to you in the halls. The pool, which I went to for the first time this past week, was awesome, very clean the hot tub felt amazing and the floor in there was spotless. When I walk in I feel right at home. These apartments are awesome, our apartment is HUGE and the underground parking is a blessing when it rains and snows. I would reccomend this place to anyone!!!!

First of the Dunham Company has been around for 20 plus years. And you can thank alot of the development of sioux falls to them. As far miserable, what do you know? They are honest and straight forward. I have been now looking at apartments for 5 months and am not planning on moving out for another 3. Yet i have met with plenty of onsite managers. And i can say every onsite manager i have met with through dunham properities was great! Not to mention dunham is my family. So alot of times ill go in and the onsite manager doesnt even know me so i can report how they do. And trust me my family doesnt fix things up cheap. And its not like your looking at a five star apartment and they def/ dont say they are. So if your not happy maybe you should pay more and upgrade and stop bitching! DUH!!!!!!!

To the person related to Dunham, do you think you are biased at all? When the apartment isn't cleaned when you move in, they are not living up to their part of the lease agreement. When they do not fix things, they are not living up to their part of the lease agreement. When you can't keep your apartment warm during the winter, they are not living up to their part of the lease agreement. When you don't have hot water, they are not living up to their part of the lease agreement. Onsite managers are also nice and give you the answers you want when you are looking at the places because they want to get you to move in. That is why people should come to these types of websites.

My boyfriend and I are expecting our first child in July and the place that we are currently at is anything but easy to access the apartment itself. He works right across from the complex. He went to look at the apartment this weekend and he loved it. I was suppose to go back with him tonight and get a look at it for myself, but the manager I guess cancelled on us so we have to go tomorrow instead.
If I like them enough then we are going to be signing the lease together this week/weekend. Part of me is not so sure about this place, seeing as there are conflicting thoughts about this place. Is this really going to be a place where I want to raise our child?
I mean because if we do move in we are getting an apartment on the third floor and I guess my boyfriend just loves the place. I don't know what attitude I want to go in there with or keep looking for different places. Our lease for the current apartment we are at is up in a few weeks and we want to be sure that we have a safe place to stay.

Things may have changed since I lived there. It depends if they have a new on site manager. If you are planning on moving in there, make sure you look at the one you want to move into without any furniture. We didn't look at the exact one we were moving into. The floors and cupboards were different, which didn't favor us. I cleaned that place up and down and I still felt dirty living in it. Our neighbors had to two young children who were always running up and down the hallways, one always crying. You can have that anywhere though. I have been at our new place since May and I love it. We moved in to the place being spotless (although I still cleaned). We have very friendly, quiet neighbors. It helps that it is a fourplex and they are fairly new. I would say keep looking. Also, they charge you more to live on the third floor at Kingsport, which is ridiculous. When we moved out they upted the rent to 750. That is what we are paying now except we have 2 bathrooms instead of one. Also, it is bigger and only 2 years old.
