THE BEST apartment site
Apartment Ratings is THE BEST website to go to before you even decide to move into an apartment. Thanks a million to those who gave great and honest feedback. It has made my job so much easier and two thumbs up for those responsible for creating this website!!!

Complaints get results
At my complex, the only thing that makes the management do anything is seeing a complaint on ApartmentRatings.com I don't know if it's like that everywhere. But it's how we got new washer/dryers, repaved parking lot, and a lot of other things. But at the very least, sharing your experience might make someone else not move there and keep them from going through what you did.

Fighting EVIL one review at a time
Before you guys created one of the most brilliant sites on planet earth, evil (and we mean EVIL) went totally unchecked in the apt industry. And if you think this is a stretch, its not. I have plenty of experience in and outside the industry.
We are so glad and thankful that you started this desperately needed entity.
You have made such a difference in the world, though sadly, you yourselves probably don t realize how much. It figures it was people from Austin. We laughed (TRULY and REALLY!) when we saw that it was Austin folks and we said "well, it figures! :)
Very few make a difference in this world (and you must know this) and the difference you make is devastating. It forces crooked, greedy entities to take notice. The management companies are scared to death of this site. Some are still arrogant and couldn t care less. (because too few still read it and know about it and they still fill up because of it) Many people I know still never heard of the site which is highly unfortunate.
Do you want to know the most important thing you have created? Look at the past and historical fact , and there is the answer. The little guy and gal tenants never had ANY chance against the vile behemoths until you came along, and now they at least have their say so, even if that doesn t mean much. They may not be able to sue or prevail or stop the evil, greed, abuse, etc---but at least now they have a voice, which you gave them. The man upstairs should take care of you just for that alone! You have become the equalizer, even if it really still isn t equal, as the bad companies still have the upper hand and always will.
The only problems on here are the phony property company reviews and their increasingly creative liars/leasing agents/managers/owners. (many dont know, but most get commissions for leasing apts and cant stand the truth being told--and these commissions are an important part of their income) , but oh well, nothing is perfect. At least readers can hopefully try to sort those things out even with all those phony property company reviews. We hope so. If not, well they win.
We don't throw out idle compliments but you guys are one of the 1% out there that ever does anything in this world to affect and cause change. Good luck-- and though we aren't religious, we must say that we feel blessed by your service.
Hopefully goodness and happiness will come back upon you one day.

Props from a web developer (W00T!)
I just want to say I love your site. It's hard to impress me as I have been a web developer for the past 5 years or so and have seen many sites attempting to accomplish what you have. The design is flawless and the navigation is great. Bravo...may we all be able to make our sites as easy to use and pleasurable to view as yours...

Finding the hidden jewels
THANK GOD FOR THIS WEBSITE! I am going through the nightmare of relocating to a city I don't even yet know and had lined up a series of apts. to look at, based upon MARKETING MATERIALS....somehow I stumbled across ApartmentRatings.com, and boy did it open up my eyes! I had a bit of a melt-down reading all the crappy reviews on apts. that looked so warm & fuzzy in the color brochures, but now it becomes obvious why THEY had to pay to advertise! (Loads of turn-over, no doubt.) On the other side of the coin, once I'd shredded 3/4's of my initial now-useless research (having learned from residents themselves about crime, thin walls, terrible management, and so on), I was able to turn things around by using your rating system to FIND many jewels at 89% or 100% approval ratings, and proceed from there.
I now have a full portfolio of apartments to look at when I take my fall trip, and have you guys to thank! You need to make yourselves VERY VISIBLE on websites like
"ForRent.com," "ApartmentFinders.com," or what-have-you ... or do they disallow this as a conflict with their advertisers?
At any rate, I'm telling everyone about your ratings and I've checked some of the ones here in my hometown -- they are right on!
I am a very careful, very prudent consumer (the old "look before you leap" adage serves me well!), and do a lot of research. You have saved me time, trouble, heartache, and potentially a very bad situation, and I am very grateful.
You can quote me!

Gives renters a true view
Thank you for an outstanding website!!!! Renters are generally totally at the mercy of landlords/owners/managers...one has no idea what one is getting into (just like marriage!). Once you sign that lease a tenant's freedom disappears and you are at the mercy of the manager/tenants. I am an old man (70) have rented all my life and have been EXTREMELY FORTUNATE to accidentally stumble on great rental properties/personnel.
Your great website at least gives the tenant some idea of the true nature of a rental property with comments by other tenants who actually experienced the pros and cons.
I currently live in Claremont, California but will have to move soon due to rapidly rising rents (Socal has gotten so expensive). Your great website gives me some basis for making a selection of my final future location, pricing and enlightening reviews.
Thanks again!

I would like a bumper sticker
I would like a bumper sticker or something to put on my car, so that more people in my community and area will know how to come and search for ratings of apartments that they are wanting to move in. Over a year ago I found this Website and did not take heed to what the people were saying. I moved in a low rating community because I decided to give them a chance. The community looked nice and the people upon trying to rent me the apartment were fairly nice. Once in here it has almost been a nightmare. I have since wanted to go and yell at people who are looking around the community to go to the website.
I am currently getting ready to end my lease and I went and looked at some very nice looking apartments yesterday. I was about to give them the deposit right then when I decided to wait and come home and look them up. Although their rating isn't as bad as the ones I am currently in, some of the things that annoy me the most is showing on their reviews. I will not move there, and I am glad that your site was available so that I could make an informed decision. I would like to advertise on my Trailblazer for you if possible. I love the fact that I was able to not make the same mistake twice.

Happy accident
For the past 6 months, I've been looking to find an apartment that I can live comfortably in for one year. I only found your website by accident! But believe me...this was accident worth having :o) I only reviewed the most reviews of apartment complexes I was interested in and I am appalled! Without this website, I could have made some REGRETABLE mistakes!! Thank you so much to whoever conceived the idea of this website :o)

SHIFT_Power
I am offering my eternal thanks to the person who thought of apartmentratings.com and to all the people to got it up and running! Wow! What a great resource to see tenant feedback on apartment complexes.
I am relocating to the Bay Area from the Midwest. I've relocated to new states twice before and know how difficult it is to find a housing situation that is desirable.
While it is possible, sometimes, to see that a building is not well kept or to get a bad feeling from a place, sometimes the "front" is so well put together and skillfully marketed that the consumer is not able to see what lies behind and beneath the carefully crafted facade.
This can be especially true for what appears to be, by all outward appearances, a building with grounds that are well maintained. Deep within the belly of the organization, however, can lie unethical maintenance men and shifty rental managers. I know, I've lived at a couple of buildings sporting these characters.
And, as I know many of us can attest, there is a profound sense of powerlessness and discomfort that occurs when landlords/managers/maintenance men, and others violate our basic needs for a safe place to live by acting unethically, irresponsibly, and greedily.
Thank you so much for providing a forum for renters to expose that which one cannot see before signing a rental agreement.

Avoided 12 months of agony
I cannot tell you how thankful I am that your company has created this website for consumers. It aided me much in my apartment search. I had almost moved into an apartment complex a few months ago. On the day that I was supposed to sign the lease, I went in, viewed the apartment and was floored by what I saw. The leasing manager, with pen in hand, was trying to get me to sign the lease while at the same time telling me about all the work-orders that he was going to have to put in to get the apartment up to par. Needless to say, I didn't want to sign the lease until the apartment was in move-in condition. I went home that night, got online, and did some research. My search brought me to your website where that particular apartment complex rating was 17%. Most of the resident's responses noted a total lack of maintenance as well as serious problems with the office staff. The following day, I called the office manager and cancelled my move-in. Two weeks later, I moved into a complex close-by with a much higher resident satisfaction rating. I love it here!! I am still fighting with the first apartment complex over the refund of my deposit. Apparently, they don't think that I am entitled to receive my money back even though the apartment was not ready on the signed move-in date. That's another story. I found the responses that the previous residents listed on your site to be helpful and truthful. It saved me from twelve months of agony. Thank you.

Get the word out!
I accidentally found this website and I think this is such a GREAT idea to rate apartments! I am moving from Houston to Dallas and don't really know the areas and/or apartment communities there, but going through these ratings is really helping soooo much. I understand you have to be careful and use good judgment when reading these, but some of the information residents post on here are really big issues that apartment staff shouldn't have even let go that far. Further, touring an apartment just once during the day is not good enough to make a sound decision on where you're locked in to spend the next year of your life at. This website gives residents direction and peace of mind in choosing an apartment. If the word spreads and this website gets really big and commonly known like monster.com or something like that, then I can foresee apartment complexes getting themselves together or apartment owners getting their staff straightened out to care more about how they treat residents and take care of their properties, as oppose to ignoring maintenance reports or just plain rude customer service. I've had my fair share of such places and it really lessens the quality of life to live in such environments. This is a really really good idea, why couldn't I have thought of something like this :). This website could be a really really awesome thing and can be really big! How can I help get the word out? Can I make a link on my personal email account on emails that I send out, like on my signature or something?

Protecting my hard-earned money
Thank you for having this site for people to see residents' comments about apartment complexes they have lived in! You cannot tell when you are leasing an apartment what it will be like to live there -- management always shows you the good stuff and neglects to tell you the whole story. So it is very helpful to get an idea ahead of time before you put your hard-earned money down and make a leasing commitment. Keep up the excellent work!

It has saved me a LOT of grief---it's the best ratings site out there. Lists lots of apartment complexes in all 50, and you can add your apartment if it is not listed.

Do it for moving companies, too!
This is a great site. It is super-useful. You guys REALLY need to do one for moving companies as well. Their business conduct is typically awful, so finding a reputable one is a critical and difficult task. Such a site would also be a perfect fit with people who are interested in moving to a new apartment. Please help us out!

Avoiding bad choices from 3000 miles away
THANK YOU for giving me information 3000 miles away. I am looking to move to quality apt./ house in that area from Michigan. I can't "be there" right now to look. To be honest, AptRatings has saved me from making bad choices. I will recommend this site to everyone or just tell people in general the experience I had looking for a home away from home and how incredibly helpful your website has been to me. Thanks again, seriously.
