The end of an era...

It's now called Mission Hickory Highlands.

I've lived in 3 different units since moving to TN in 2000. I went from a downstairs mid-sized 1 bdrm to an upstairs unit with the same layout. In '03 I moved to the largest 1 bedroom. I just moved out of Antioch last week.

Safety. It was never an issue for me personally. I know several crimes that have happened in the complex (& witnessed one) & a friend's car was broken into. Sometime in late Nov/early Dec someone hit my car & dented it. But I have never felt threatened or unsafe. Though I never went walking around the complex after dark, either.

Noise. ALWAYS my biggest complaint. I was lucky when I moved upstairs. The building I've been in since '01 is VERY quiet (or was until the week before I moved). Most of my issues had to do with the people in the building behind mine. Very few people seemed to respect the "quiet hours". Calling the courtesy officer seemed like it only worked 50% of the time. Loud bass, co-ed drunk strip volleyball games, domestic disputes...I've seen & heard it all.

Structure. These are OLD buildings. The decor is outdated & there is no area of the floor that didn't creak. The ceiling over my balcony looked like it was going to cave in any day. The new owners really need to begin remodeling if they expect to keep up the surrounding complexes. I hated when it rained, too, because the overhangs that covered the stairs were actually waterfalls. Also--wasps were always flying around my balcony & burrowing holes into the wood slats. All maintenance ever did was spray. Didn't help.

Staff. MARK IS AWESOME! Everyone else is friendly/helpful 75% of the time. Depends, I think, on what time of day you catch them.

Maintenance. They always responded within a day of my complaint. Though, I had several issues that weren't rectified until I wrote a letter stating the issue & what I wanted done to fix it.

Location. It's Antioch. That's more a negative than anything mentioned above.

I can't really comment on the new management. Hopefully, they have plans to make it a nicer place to live. Though, moving it OUT of the ghetto would help exponentially!

It's not a fancy place to live & the area isn't great. But my experience there was pretty good. It is an apartment & walls are thin & you can't choose your neighbors. Choice is yours. I would NOT recommend it to a friend, however. Maybe someone who needed a temporary place to stay. But I won't be going back to Antioch ever again.

Still, I miss my big bedroom windows & ceiling fan....and I'll miss Mark.
