I've lived at Bent Tree since October 06. The office staff is very nice, friendly, and helpful, but the maintenance staff seems to do just enough to get by. I had some issues with drawers coming off their tracks early on and the maintenance people came to fix it, but then told the office staff that there wasn't a problem even though when I got home, the drawer was still hanging. I let the office staff know again and they were very nice and I had a note that they had fixed it, but that evening the drawer came off again. They had basically just propped it up and not really fixed it. I let the office know again and it was finally fixed correctly. Since then, two more drawers in the kitchen have come off their tracks and I've fixed them myself because I didn't want to have to call multiple times to get it fixed the right way. Also, it is a gated community, however the gates are often broken and wide open. I understand they need to keep them open during the day during business, hours, but they should be secured at night. My apartment was broken into over Christmas time. There was a convenient nook where someone could stand and pry open the window without being seen. The window was locked and I hadn't had the money to get my alarm system hooked up yet. It's only $10 a month for the service, but it initially costs about $50 for them to switch the service.
It would be nice if there were a play area for the kids. There are a lot of kids of various ages in the complex and they have the choices of playing in the sand volleyball court or in the parking area. There is a tennis court but when I took my son down there last night, I found it was locked with a sign that said to ask the office for a key, which isn't helpful when the office is locked (which it was last night).
It's a very diverse community, which I like, but there doesn't seem to be much interaction between tenants... I've tried striking up conversations with neighbors, but they are either uninterested or don't speak English. I had hoped to make some friends for my son to play with, but haven't had that opportunity yet. It would be nice if the complex offered some type of activities where people could come and mingle.
Overall, I like the floor plan and it's great that they pay your water and each place comes with a washer and dryer. There are a handful of issues that, if addressed, would make the complex more attractive to new tenants.

to anyone who reads this: i will be new to Bent Tree, and, as a single woman, i am VERY concerned with crime in this complex! please let me know if you think i would be safe from any sort of break-in(to my apt or my car). it scares me to think someone would just break into my apartment like that! i have heard many bad things about Antioch and crime. i am on a limited income so can not afford to pay the $10 extra per month for the alarm. will this be bad for me and make me an easy target for crooks? please tell me if you think i will be safe here. thanks
