I lived in Hickory Trace for a little over a year and absolutely loved it! I moved only because I got married and my husband and I just wanted a change of scenery. It's true that a couple of years ago, Antioch started having a lot of problems with crime, but over the past year or so, it's changed quite a bit. Apartments complexes in the area have raised their rents and have gotten more strict about doing background checks, credit checks, etc. to try to weed out the bad apples. Also, I think the police and Nashville government have done a lot to improve Antioch. As far as Hickory Trace goes, they changed management just before I moved in the summer of 2006, and the new staff are all so nice. I believe the complex itself has a very positive energy and homey feel to it. There's washer/dryer connections, fireplaces in all units, and plenty of storage. I do a lot of cooking and the kitchens have a lot of storage (including a pantry) for an apartment kitchen. I also loved the big balconies and the storage closet on the balcony, which many complexes don't have. The bedrooms and living rooms are also very spacious and I loved having the coat/storage closet next to the front door. It's also got a little space of tile floor in front of the door to put a rug on. However, all apartments complexes come with some drawbacks, let's be realistic. I only have a few complaints about the amenities. The first is that a complex with 400 units only has one pool. I would have loved to use the pool more, but it was always so crowded. Secondly, I would like for them to bring back the grills/picnic areas. I don't know why they took those out. Third, I would have liked to work out more, but the work out room is only open during office hours, when I'm at work. And lastly, I wanted to get satellite service, but they require one month's rent minus your original deposit to put a dish up. In my case, that would have been about $500. They also require you have $100,000 liability on your renter's insurance, in case the dish falls on someone's head. That's a lot to have a dish! Also, this isn't really a complaint, but there is a large hispanic population in the complex and I would occasionally hear loud latin music from inside my apartment. It didn't bother me. I would just dance around to it, but it might bother some people. All in all, though I really adored my apartment and the management staff and I will miss it terribly. I definitely recommend it. Maybe one day my husband will agree to move back.
