11/23/08: I originally wrote this post because the Landings hot tub was breaking down way too often, and the staff was absurdly slow fixing it each time. Now the hot tub has been clean and working well for three months, even on Sundays. It's probably due to the new pool guy. I hardly use it lately because of work, but it's great when I do.

And the Landings kept the pool open well into October, which is later than anyplace I know. I saw some hardy/crazy people use it up to the end.

Although things are good now, I'm keeping my prior posts, in hopes it won't happen again:

ORIGINAL MESSAGE 6/19/08: The hot tub has been broken for about three weeks, which is pretty normal for the Landings of Brentwood. It sits empty, except for the green slime on the bottom. The hot tub is very popular, but when it breaks down, management takes anywhere from two weeks to two months to fix it. Now the staff wants to remove the hot tub altogether because maintaining it properly is too much of a bother. That's ridiculous!

Management doesn't care very much about the things that are important to you after you move in. The complex is infested with Brown Recluse spiders (one bite can send you to the hospital), and a few people have mice. The basketball hoop has been broken for years. And they treat you like dirt when you move out, like charging you hundreds or thousands of dollars for "damage" to the apartment.

Meanwhile, the Landings is spending millions on renovations to get people to move in, but they don't matter to current residents. Like painting all the buildings puke colors. And they update empty apartments with new applicances, kitchen floors, and countertops. But if you already live here, you're stuck with the old stuff.

It's too bad management has this attitude because it's otherwise a nice place to live.

UPDATE 7/08: They fixed the hot tub in less than a month, and it's working great. On Sunday the water was murky green. That happens every Sunday during the busy season because they don't take care of it on the weekends when it's used the most.

And they built a fantastic gas grill and a lot of people used it. But now there's no gas. They took away the canisters a week or two ago, so no one can cook on it. That's what's so frustrating about the Landings - they'll spend thousands of dollars on something that looks good in the brochure, but they won't do some simple maintenance to keep it working for current residents.

UPDATE AGAIN 8/14/08: The hot tub broke again, and the Landings took almost a month to fix it again. In July the hot tub timer was broken by incompetent Landings workers. Maintenence simply had to drive to Home Depot to buy a new one, but that took more than three weeks.

This summer, the hot tub was broken for a month, then it worked for a month, then it was broken for a month. So the hot tub probably will break down a month from now, and the maintenance staff will take another month to drive to Home Depot.

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 09/08/2008
The hot tub is up and working and hopefully everyone that enjoys the use will keep it free of debri and other items that can create the malfunction of the hot tub. It is not as easy to repair the Hot Tub as to go to Home Depot. Ordering parts take sometimes up to 30 days and for this we apologize, but hopefully we won't have to visit this mechanical problem again in the future.

They didn't take away the gas. Some lowlifes stole them so now they decided to lock it up and make people pay a deposit to use the grill. Again, I heard some drunken, lowlife cut the lock off last week. They clean and treat the pools on the weekend bud its hard to chlorinate beer and keep it clean. The pools used to be a nice family area , now they are only hangouts for drunks, smokers, slobs and perverts.

You're right that drunks have taken over the pool this year. I can put up with it, but people with kids must be mad. They maintain the hot tub on weekends? Then they're doing a horrible job. Every Sunday, the water is green, cloudy, and so low that the pump can hardly work. Every Sunday. And now they're closing the pool every Monday! No sign, no explanation. And if residents are allowed to use the grill, then it's a secret. Lots of people are mad, but the only people we've seen grilling in the past month are off-duty Landings staff.
