There have been numerous problems for me from the beginning of the lease in August of 2006. First of all, the toilet from the upstairs apartment leaked into my kitchen, This took weeks for anyone to come and look at the problem, and another week for anyone to actually "fix" it. When the maintenance man fixed it halfway, he said that he would come back to complete the project and never did. Every group of neighbors I have had live above me have been obnoxious and noisy from day one, and management will do nothing even after several complaints. The apartment has flooded twice from rain coming in from the upstairs doors. Both times, it took hours for anyone to come out to the apartment, then days for anyone to actually fix the problems. The winter months mean electric bills reach to $290 dollars despite the fact that we use cold water for everything but the dishwasher and showers, keep lights off and the heat practically off in the winter. The management says that this is my problem, even though tenants in another apartment's bill reaches only to about $100 in the winter months. The spring and summer months yield bills reaching to $150 still using cold water and conserving energy as much as possible. I have seen a few roaches in the apartment coming from inside the cabinets meaning there is no way to keep food out of reach unless I wrap everything in plastic wrap or some other kind of apparatus. The roaches are obviously in the walls and that would not be my fault. There have been instances where maintenance crews have come in unannounced, and other times like those when I have been left without water over the weekend because no one felt like finishing what they had started during the week. I have seen a few superficial improvements, but only to be disappointed by the fact that they are cheap excuses for quality. the doors were replaced only to be installed without peepholes. the toilets were replaced and the sliding glass doors were also a good improvement, but the parkay flooring at the entrance now has cheap vinyl glued to it which is bubbling up because of poor installation work. In addition, the kitchen and both of the bathrooms have the exact same cheap vinyl flooring installed in the same shoddy manner. During this same time, a fire was started in the crawl space because an irresponsible maintenance worker left a construction-grade light on the ground. My sister happened to be in the apartment at the time to alert the only english speaking worker there of the fire. I would hate to think of what would happen if she had not been there. You will always be advised to get renters insurance because it is the law, but here, it is greatly stressed. The money that you will be charged now, beginning at $740 dollars, will mostly cover the cost of the brand new furniture the mansion "needs" every six months or so to create the illusion of luxury they so openly claim on all of their advertisements.
