I like my place

I've been living here for nine months now. I'm in the "Ravenwood", the largest one bedroom apartment, with my boyfriend.
I will say I'm a very low maintenance person, so if you are someone who demands no cracks in the walls and no creeks in the floors then you might want to look elsewhere, because my place has both.

That being said, I moved in and only had two complaints: 1. The mirror in the bathroom had rust around it (which was replaced within a week) 2. One window in my sun room wont close (they tried to fix it, but the frames are so old they cant order new ones)-- in my opinion, not a big deal. The air conditioner was also in need of service. The first time they looked at it they just changed the filter. The second time they found the pressure in the outside unit needed fixing-- I only dealt with it for two weeks and they seemed happy to help me. The maintenance guys are extremely nice! Be nice to them and they will help you out.

They took care of those problems quickly, as long as management knows what you expect when you sign the lease, they'll get it done. They'll put it off if you wait. They even made an appointment to get my bath re-surfaced which I had to cancel because the shower curtain covered it fine. (There are little marks where the sliding doors used to be.) Edit: to reiterate my point, the appointment they made to re-surface the tub was made when I signed the lease. Two weeks later I got a note in my door that said they'd be coming in a few days and that I needed to make plans to bathe somewhere else for 3 days to allow the new surface to dry. That is why I canceled the appointment, it wasnt a big enough deal to me to go through all the trouble. I'm just making the point that they do a very good job at fixing the place up when you move in.

I had a brand new refrigerator, oven and dishwasher which work nicely, again they arent top of the line but they do look like recent models. Some of the floors in the kitchens are redone as well-- mine wasn't, it's just stained. But again, not a big deal.

The landscaping is beautiful, I'm proud to have friends over. It's a very quiet place, no noise at night and no kids running around. The management is polite in comparison to many places in the area. There is a police officer that lives in my area and he parks his police car in the parking lot, that makes me feel a bit safer. As far as parking goes, I usually never have a hard time getting a spot close to my door. Sometimes on the weekends if you come home around 10pm or later the parking lot is full, but at most it's only a two minute walk. (I'm on the left side of the complex-- I don't know why people are giving parking a low rating. I will say when I first moved in someone decided to park where a spot wasn't marked which blocked people in for several days. Their tires were slashed because people got so angry. Immediately following that incident the "no parking" zones got some fresh paint and there was a sign stuck in everyone's door that said "if you are in this zone, you will be towed." Problem solved.) However, like I said, I usually park 1-3 spots away from my front door so I've never had a problem with parking.

Of course you are also 15 minutes away from downtown (where UTC is), you are 15 minutes away from Hixson (where the mall and tons of restaurants are), you are 5 minutes away from Walmart/walgreens/BiLo/Blockbuster (downtown red bank)..

Overall, this place is EXTREMELY old, you must keep that in consideration-- however they are in decent shape. I feel like I'm not only paying for the place, but for the comfortable community feel as well. I find it very hard to find a place I'd rather be. I've been trying to find a place that's cheaper, but I usually end up changing my mind. Trust me, I'm in college and my room mate and I have a hard time keeping up with bills sometimes-- but we both agree it's hard to find a place better than this, and it's ESPECIALLY better than living in dorms. In my opinion, if you are too nit-picky go find a house in soddy. These are apartments we are talking about, people, they'll never be perfect.
