Nice complex, high crime

Overall Appling Lakes is a nice property with pool, tennis court, playground, and well maintained landscaping. My apartment has a relatively large living room and patio, kitchen is large but only moderately functional (2/4 stove tops work).
If you work a regular job, don't have packages shipped to your apartment. The front office closes at 5:30pm and it's almost impossible for me to get off of work early enough to fight the traffic back to Cordova and get there by 5:30pm. Then sometimes when I do the office is already closed.
Safety is a serious concern and will certainly expedite my departure from Appling Lakes (and Cordova in general). My apartment was broken into (luckily I wasn't home) and found out from a police officer that there has been many break-ins recently (kicking in doors & breaking windows), and that it was his guest that it was being done by other residents. Why didn't the office staff inform residents of the increase in crime in the complex? Obviously so they wouldn't lose money through attrition and word of mouth; that information would have been very helpful to me at least...

I have lived here for several years, and do understand that the Cordova police department has had issues at the surrounding apartment communities as well. Sometimes regardless of living in a house or apartment, bad people do bad things. I have spoken to the office and they do have resident watch meetings and they now have 2 courtesy officers, which says a lot. I love the apartments and the landscaping. Best of all, we are not off busy Germantown! I love living here.
