Beware of the staff...both maintenance & office! Not helpful!

For a company to have the motto "taking care of the way people live", you would think they would actually try to live up to it! However, the Gables of Stonebridge fell short of this standard time and time again! I lived there for 2 years, and had the exact same problems that everyone else mentioned having in the previous postings! The gates were always broken, making it easily accessible for rift-raft! The trash compactor was always overflowing. Smells did draft down through the fireplace from other apartments. Children ran wild throughout the complex...the worst was this little blonde-haired boy & his gang of friends. He was CONSTANTLY prank calling people at the gate box or running through the breeze-way knocking on peoples doors & running off. It got to be really bad, but the office never did anything about it! The theft & vandalism had also grown at a considerable rate by the time I moved out. People were always getting their cars broken into, and a few people even had their apartments broken into.
I also had a drug dealer living above me for a while, which was very annoying and VERY dangerous (because of the clientele he brought around). While he was there, shady characters were always lingering around in the parking lot outside my building & you could smell the marijuana constantly! However, even though my neighbors & I placed many calls to the office about him & his clientele, nothing was ever done. I guess he was supplying them too because I did see a few of the grounds crew go up there occasionally. The police did show up FINALLY & took him off, but that was only because my neighbor called it in to them. So complaints are DEFINITELY ignored!
One of my biggest pet peeves was the unfair pricing for people who live in the exact same apartment (depending on what "special" you came in under, you might be paying $100 or more a month than your neighbor...and even if you did come in under a ?special?, you can forget about getting a "special" rate when you renew your lease...you'll be paying market rate all the way! You might as well find a new place & get their move-in special). I had it out with them when I renewed my lease last year. It doesn't make sense to me that they wouldn't want to retain their good tenants by giving them a special as well. If the person, who is going to take my spot in the apartment when I move, is going to be paying a special rate, why couldn?t I pay that rate as well' It never made sense to me, but BELIEVE ME...they DO NOT CARE!
Another HUGE problem I had was that the maintenance crew was a JOKE! Any problems that I called to report to the office were ignored by either the office staff or maintenance (never quite figured out which one was to blame, probably both). It never failed that I would have to call AT LEAST 3 times to finally get someone to come out & look at my problem. Also, I had a HUGE bug problem that was never taken care of...their pest control company (Good Earth) is a joke as well. The Gables desperately need to find another one because they are notorious for "not making" it your apartment when you've scheduled them to come...VERY frustrating!
The fitness room is a joke as well. They have 2 treadmills (one of which sat there broken for the entire two years that I lived there), a weights stand (which most of the equipment on it is broken as well), and some stationary bikes circa 1970. Basically, it's all there for looks & so they can say they have it! Not to mention the fact that it was ALWAYS about 85 degrees in there in the summertime because people at the pool would prop open the door to be able to get in to use the restroom.
Parking always ended up being an issue, as well. If you don't get home until late one night, get ready to hike back to your apartment! There just aren't enough spaces in front of the buildings for the number of units each building contains! Very poor planning!
Having said all the negatives, there are a couple of positive things I have to say about the community. Number one, I did like the layout of my apartment (one bedroom, with a sunroom). While it was definitely small, as most one-bedroom apartments are, it was very open, so I didn't feel as enclosed. But the wallpaper they chose has definitely got to go! NASTY! Number two, they have multiple gates to get in & out of the community. This makes it nice because I would have HATED driving to the front gate to leave every morning. Other than those two positives, I didn't have a good experience there at all! So...beware...and rethink moving here, unless you like a lot of hassles!!
