Overall, I am happy with this apartment. The location is great- close to alot of entertainment and about 5 minutes to the interstate. It is very open and sunny and that is the main reason my husband and I decided to rent here. The appliances were all included (which was good because we just got married and had nothing) but they are very old. The washer and dryer are old and very tiny.
We have a lake view which is great, but the moisture from the lake brings out the roaches (which are so big they could carry me away) and the lake occasionally has trash in it that the management doesn't care to clean up. About the roaches, the apts. will send someone out to spray every week if you ask for it, but we found that buying our own bug spray worked more effectively and was less invasive.
We have an entry level apartment that was intended for handicapped access so our bathroom, closet, and kitchen are very spacious. However, the ceilings/floors are so very thin. We can hear EVERYTHING that goes on upstairs: when our upstairs neighbors fought, um... made up, or when they came home throwing up. Yeah, we could hear what happened in their bathroom.
As far as safety, I feel safe for the most part. We got flyers in our door occasionally letting us know about a robbery or sexual assault that happened recently. I got pepper spray and felt marginally safer. Of course, I always keep the door chained and bolted.
I have nothing good to say about maintenance. When we first moved in, our washing machine was broken so that the first time we used it, it didn't drain. We had standing water in it for TWO MONTHS!! We called the office constantly. When they finally got to our apartment to "fix" it, they didn't. They told us it was fine so we tried it again. Same thing- standing water for 1 month. We were having to drag our laundry to our parents houses like dorm livers!! Also, our fridge was leaky so when they came to fix it, they actually messed up the seal of the door so our fridge couldn't stay cold. We were having to buy milk every other day because it was spoiling so fast. I also got sick a few times because I trusted the milk I bought the night before to be safe and it wasn't.
Even though I am saying all this bad stuff, I have been satisfied with this place. All apartments are going to have bad parking, big bugs, and noisy neighbors. It just happens. This place is sunny all day, my balcony is spacious, all the office workers are super friendly, and the layout is great for my husband and me. I would recomend it to people with the disclaimer that it is an apartment.

"All apartments are going to have bad parking, big bugs, and noisy neighbors."
Not all. The one I'm in now is cheaper AND bug free with parking by the door and neighbors so quiet I don't even know they are home most of the time. I'm glad you like TL with all its flaws but there ARE better, safer, cleaner, bug free places.
