Nice Staff, Terrible Maintenance & Crappy Appliances

Great floor plans, nice enough closet space. The staff here is nice, in general. They're horrid for maintenance though. It has taken them over a _year_ to replace a window screen that was never in my master bedroom to begin with.
My second bedroom was wired for a 2nd phone line, but not set up so that it could be on the main line and they wanted me to pay to get that changed back to the main phone line when I didn't put it that way to begin with. The appliances are supposed to be brand new, but the oven isn't self-cleaning, nor does it have a timer. It's cheap. The washer/dryer have had problems too. The dryer doesn't always vent properly. The garbage disposal sucks and doesn't work well. The way the plumbing is done in the kitchen you have to run the garbage disposal before you run the dishwasher, or dirt will collect on your dishes. Even if you scrub the dishes pristinely before you put them into the dishwasher you will get dirt 70% of the time and they have to be rewashed by hand.
And also, the garbage disposable is so loud that I can hear it when all my neighbors run theirs, and with mine it is deafening.
Also, the non-refundable pet deposit (why not call it a fee when a fee is non-refundable, and a deposit is refundable) of $300 per pet (yes, i paid $600 for 2 cats) is ridiculous. Other places I have looked at since have "pet fees", and "pet deposits". The deposits are refundable.
The walls seem fairly thin. I can hear the person in the next apartment snoring from my master bedroom. I can hear the neighbors who have dogs when their dogs bark, and its not like they even bark loud, just a little yip, so its not that their dogs are obnoxious.
I have often had to complain about the lights out in the parking lot going out and not being replaced.
Also, there are no doorbells, which is ridicuous, especially when you live on the second floor and you can't always tell if someone is knocking at your door or the apartment below you.
Overall, the office staff is good. They really try to make things better for you.
The construction of the apartments leaves something to be desired.
The appliances truly suck. The washer is really loud when I run it and so is the dryer. Youd think for a luxury apartment complex they could have bought nice washers, dryers and ovens. Instead it looks like they bought the cheapest models out there.
The maintenance work leaves something to be desired. Theyve switched to a new maintenance person, and if hes around things are good. But when he has days off (and he does deserve them), the people who are there to do the maintenance work suck. Oftentimes the maintenance staff will say that they don't get the message to fix things. Also, there seems to be a problem with ants coming in through the walls. I think it is from the poor construction and thin walls.
The rent is a bit high, and they do raise it every year. I do not consider these to really be luxury apartments compared to what a luxury apartment is in California or other places.
When we were moving in, the people who were doing work on our apartment to install a deadbolt and a peep hole on the door left our door unlocked and open, so that our cats could have gotten out. I got no apology for this.
Update: The maintenance has gotten worse. Yesterday I called 3 times to get someone to fix my air conditioning (which has gone out at least 5 times since I moved here), and no one showed up. The woman working in the office was polite and told me I could open my windows. Im paying to have working heat and air conditioning, so telling me to open my windows is not valid, the air should be fixed. Of course, the guy who finally showed up to fix it said that it was broken because there is a leak and that it will keep breaking until a part is replaced. Another example of crappy maintenance and crappy building.
And finally, while this is Germantown and supposed to be safe, an apartment downstairs and next door to mine was broken into one morning when I was home. I dont particularly feel any safer here than I would in other places in Memphis.
Update: The apartment complex has been broken into a few more times. This actually caused my renter's insurance to go up. I am not pleased at this. This makes me glad that I will be moving soon. I don't feel safe here at all, especially since the apartment next to mine was broken into.
Update: The people in the office apparently lie. I asked about whether or not they had a cleaning service that could be paid to clean my apartment after I moved out, as I didn't feel like cleaning it. I either wanted to pay their cleaning staff, or a cleaning service. The lady in the office said that they had a cleaning service and that it would be fine for me to use it, and that they would take the cost of the cleaning service out of our deposit. I said great. This was a big mistake. Once I moved, I got a nasty letter from the Office saying that I had left my apartment disgusting and that I had a ton of extra fees to pay, all because of this. Well, I specifically said I wouldn't be cleaning it, so yes it was messy! Yes I expected to pay for a cleaning service. No, I did not expect to get a nasty letter from the Office. In the office, which was sent out the monday after I moved, I was threatened to be taken to a collection office if I didn't send a payment within 7 days on the date of the letter. I received the letter 5 days after it had been sent and immediately sent out the money owed.
I will never recommend this place to anyone. They lie to you and treat you like crap, as well as being overprice for crappy quality.
