We would've liked to have stayed......

I have lived in three different apartments in the White Oaks complex. I've been relatively happy until the last year or two. Here are my complaints:

1. They put up a security gate. Nice gesture, and I was very impressed. But it hasn't worked properly for the past eight months or so, and it just sits there propped wide open day and night.

2. Last summer, we had a problem with crickets in our apartment. White Oaks did very little to rectify the situation, and they didn't seem to care.

3. They sent me a renewal letter in December of 2003. The letter stated that my rent would remain the same if I signed a six-month or twelve-month lease. My lease at the time didn't expire until January of 2004. I planned on signing a twelve-month lease, and I notified the apartment staff that I would be in to sign it "in the next couple of weeks." I then received another renewal letter in which they decided to raise my rates no matter what. Apparently, I didn't sign the lease quickly enough. Since the lease requires a two-month notice before I move out, I was stuck. I signed a six-month lease instead.

4. We rent a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. We've had problems with one of the shower's hot water spicket. It wasn't turning properly. We reported this back in 2002. A repairman showed up, said he'd be back the next day, and never returned. We decided to report it again in the winter of 2003. They half-ass fixed it, and it broke again. I reported it February 2, 2004. I've called the office five times since then. No one has come out to fix it.

5. We have a refrigerator that isn't working properly. They claimed that it's fixed, but it's not.

6. For as long as I've lived here, the tennis court has never been properly maintained.

In all fairness, White Oaks does have some positives:

1. I've read the other reviews, but I've yet to see these drug dealers they talk about. My wife's car was broken into once, but that could happen anywhere. I've always felt relatively safe here.

2. They only charged us half rent for February of 2004 because they will be charging for water soon. Unfortunately, this nice gesture is negated by the fact that they won't fix my bathroom (see complaint #4 above).

3. They keep the complex (as a whole) looking very nice for the most part.

4. The front office people are very nice....Whitney, in particular, is great! I had no problems with them.

All in all, White Oaks WAS once a fabulous place to live. It has gone downhill fast though, and my wife and I will not be renewing our lease in August of 2004.
