I lived in Seminole, now known as Campus Ridge for almost 2 years. It was the worst decision I ever made moving there. The complex is the poorest excuse for housing in the East Tennessee area. Do not be fooled by the outward fascade of the buildings, it is a real --------. Parents be aware of how bad this place really is and do not let your kids move into this craphole. Campus Ridge lures unsupecting students in with the promiss of low rent, free utilities, internet, fully furnished apartments, and package deals, but what management does not tell them is all the bad ammenities that come with this place. Here are the top ten reasons you should not move into this place:
1. unless you know the people you are living with you may get stuck with an ------- crack addict for a roommate. I got the pleasure of experiencing that one.
2. the internet sucks and is always going down. It always seemed to go down when I was working on a project.
3. parking is an absolute mess. There were many nights when I had to walk from one side of the apartment complex to the other and lets not forget the damn tow trucks.
4. loud ass people at night. I swear people get louder whenever they move in and they lose all respect for others. You could hear them talking and screaming at each other all through the night.
5. the managment is totally incompetant. The manager is a total douche bag who only cares about what others think of him and only does work when the coporate people come down. I had a problem with my druggy roommate for over 7 months and he did not do a damn thing. I even got the police involved and they would not do anything either because it was managements job. It was not until my roommates parents got involved and threatend to sue the ---- out of the complex that they evicted the mother f*$#@! and in the process he stole a bunch of my stuff and my roommates stuff. Also, those cute front of house girls are only nice to you, to get you to sign a lease. Once you sign your name on that dotted line, they could give a damn about you and your problems. They will lie to your face to get you to sign a lease and good luck getting out of it.
6. those free utilities are a pipe dream. In the almost 2 years of living there, I never made the electrity cap and I only knew of two or three apartments that ever lived below it and they were hardly ever at their place. Do not fall for this it is unrealistic.
7. the apartments themselves are falling apart. My apartment had water damage from the neighbors above us. The carpet though it was new, stained like crazy and shedded more than a dog. The top of the line appliances at this -------- were always falling apart. I went for almost a month without a dishwaher and almost 2 months with my dryer not working corectly.
8. back to the roommate deal. That great match of a roommate I had: stole my food, dealt drugs in our apartment, stole my movies, went in my room when I was gone an "borrowed things", let people sleep in my bed and God knows what when I was gone, and let crack heads sleep on our couch like it was some sort of damn hostel. My two roommates and I took pleasure in making his life a living hell until he was evicted. During this entire time, management did nothing to help us out. All they did was tell us it was our problem and we needed to work it out. The guy freaking sold drugs, forgot to pay rent for 3 months, let people stay there when we were all gone, and was an overall dickhead.
9. Johnson Cities finest patrol the apartment complex like it is freaking College Park, Atlanta whenever there is a party. There is more crime up there than in the trailor parks or housing projects in all of Johnson City. It seems that all of the crackheads and drugdealers have found out that they can make a lot of money up there. They have started dealing up there because of the abundance of buyers and the total lack of police presence when a party is not going on. Although rarely publicized, cars and apartments have been broken into in the past. A year ago at Christmas there were several cars and apartments broken into over the course of a few days. I once heard some people refer to campus ridge as its own country, because when you cross into the property anything goes.
10. partying up there is a weekly thing, from thursday-sunday. I will not lie. When I fist moved in I was all about partying and threw several large keg parties until I was busted. Trust me the court fines were quite large. If you want to live that type of lifestyle this place is for you, but beware all that partying has a price. Your grades will fall and you will fail classes. A prime example: my ------- roommate. He moved in and school went out. All he did was smoke pot and party.
These were only the top ten reasons I thought of right off hand, trust me there were many more. Do not fall for the supposed great benefits of living there. Parents do not let your kids move there. It is a trap and do not fall for it. This place is worse than a landfill and needs to be torn down.
