Close to Campus, but EXPENSIVE!

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004
I have lived here for the past few years and will be moving out at the end of the summer. The costs (as of 4/9/2004) are the following (approx): A studio: $455, a 1-bedroom: $580, and a 2-bedroom: $675.
The apartment building is pretty quite, but that doesn't mean the paper-thin walls help with your neighbor's constant parties or their continously barking dog. The apartments are pretty old, and they show their age. There are cracks in the walls where they meet the AC/Heating unit (NO central heat/air). Bugs are prevelent, but they do pest control every year or so. The management hasn't really been that good at all, in fact, it changes over all the time and it's really hard to tell who is who on any given day.
The ammenties in the apartments are very basic and consist of old refridgerators, stoves, lighting, wiring, old and totally inefficient AC/heating window elements and the walls can be dirty when you move in. (I've found that with the people I know who are living or have lived there, they tended to move into still dirty apartments.
The landscaping is nice for the most part, but the management does a horrible job in the upkeep of the indoor plants and some of the potted plants outside. They never get watered and then leave the dead plants just sitting there. The pool is usually clean though. We had a grill (nice one) recently, but with the umteenth management change in so many years, they took it away.
Parking is usually a challenge when the building is full. They have less spots than parking permits they give out, and on the street parking is not always an option. Just don't drive your car on a football game day and expect to be able to park legally within about a 5 mile radius of the apartments!!
In general, most of the people that live in the building are quite. Some older people and graduate students. It's the place to be if you like peace and quite most of the time.
Honestly, after living here for as long as I have, I do not think this place is worth the money. Sure it's closer to campus (walking distance, about two blocks to the UC), but you do not really get your moneys worth for what there is there. You can live in really, really nice apartments on Alcoa Hwy for $250/2-bedroom if you're willing to drive about 10 minutes to campus. You may start to really feel ticked off when you pay so much for your rent when the managment is only there for 4 hours a day and the maintenance crew is slow at orders (or yells at you for some problem with the building).
I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless a LOT of things change around here!!! 3mPoZ6gGN6wTPgNi4L2C
