I live at FSM from 1990 to 1996. The place is great looking, conveniently located to downtown, UTK campus, places to eat and shop and is situated on top of the ridge that defines the historic Fort Sanders neighborhood.

The landlady, Evelyn, runs this place with an iron fist and you may not pass her careful scrutiny when you apply for an apartment. My recommendation is you should casually show up around 10 am and see if she is in the courtyard removing the dead flower heads from the geraniums around the fountain. This is when you can find her in a frame of mind were she might favorably consider your application. Do not pursue her - she does not like this and I can guarantee you will not ever find her if she decides she does not want to talk to you. However, Evelyn is part of the charm of FSM and she is expert at keeping the riff-raff at bay. We still correspond - how many landlords can you say that about'

You had to provide your own window unit air conditioner back when I lived there but with cheap rent $275 for a 1 bdrm/1 bath radiator heat it was totally worth it. I had great neighbors and made several good friends with whom I still correspond.

I loved this place and it is the best apartment I ever lived in. My now wife lived across the street at a nearby apartment complex and we remember this place most fondly - in fact, I proposed to her in the courtyard of this complex one snowy January night.
