I lived in Highland Terrace nearly four years, and I saw a huge difference between the original management company and the one in place currently. Towards the end, they obviously started letting anyone live there. I'm not talking about noisy college students; I'm talking about trashy unemployed creeps. Living in the Fort, you know that there's going to be noise and homeless people, but this was ridiculous. I had one neighbor who would shoot off fireworks in the middle of the night. Of course I always thought it was a gun going off. There were several people in my building who would have screaming arguments several times a week, including threats to kill each other.

Another annoyance was the fact that I could never take a warm shower. I don't know if the water heater were tiny or what, but I took many a cold shower. I had to call maintenance every couple of months to fix something with the plumbing, as well.

Although this is one of the few places in the Fort that allows pets, be advised that the pet fee is a fee, not a deposit. You won't get any of it back, even if the place is spotless, and it won't go toward any damages that your pet might do to the apartment. My pets did do some damage (which I believe could have been solved with a carpet shampooing and a paint job) and I ended up with a bill of $450, none of which was covered by my pet fee. I paid the bill, but nevertheless they turned it over to collections! More evidence of the management's incompetence.

I did like being so close to campus and having a pool, but once I moved out I realized it wasn't worth it. I ended up with a great place off of Western Ave. that was cheap, huge, and only a ten minute drive from campus. You can still park in the Fort and walk to school.
