It's a great location. It's convenient to UT and downtown Knoxville.

Is it perfect' No! There isn't a perfect apartments complex in Knoxville.
But I thank it's the best apartment in the Fort.
It's that simple.
If you want to live in a gated community, then go move west.
Pay $1,000.00 a month rent. And keep telling yourself, it's better.
Don't forget, you'll spend an extra $200-$300 a month on gas just
driving from west Knoxville too campus. Now that sounds like fun.
Also, the office staff have been great.

You forget there are other housing in the Fort that are better. There is indeed housing that is worse than highland terrace, but there has been very little upgrading from the original 1970's setup (fixtures, carpet, paint, windows...etc). I moved out and found that my electric bill is half of what it was at highland and I have about 200 more square feet and full height ceilings (8ft)!
One common lacking feature of apartment across the board is a sizable kitchen for cooking. Highland terrance 1 BR has a kitchen that has nearly no counter room for cutting up food. So if you do not cook your meals, then this is not a drawback-- but you will have to factor in the cost of having your food prepared for you (averaging at least $100 a week for decent (non-fast food) food.)
I agree about the gas, but that can be avoided by taking the bus if you have the time. However you seem to say that all apartment west of Knoxville are $1,000 a month, which is not true. The further out the cheaper they are and newer they are. There are not many that are in gated communities.
