Major Improvements Have been Made!

We moved in to a newly renovated apartment in Jan. 2008 and have been quite pleased with the apartments and the management. The complex is under new ownership and management and has been undergoing major improvements and construction has been continuous, But were told about that ahead of time! The work is nearly complete and it really shows inside and out! They installed all new roofing with several inches on insulation under it. Plus new insulated windows. Our electric bills have been Very low. One change I don't like is their plan to convert the complex to individually metered water for each unit. This means one more bill to pay, even if it is on the same statement as the KUB electric bill. I don't know if this is standard setup with newer complexes but I don't care for it. Other than that the construction has been only a minor inconvenience and is nearly finished at any rate.
As far as I can tell most if not all of the complaints listed in the previous opinions have been addressed. I can't comment on the interior condition of all of the other apartments but for the price, we have been quite happy with ours with only minor exceptions. They didn't spend much money/time updating the bathroom in our unit(the vanity cabinet, sink/faucet and lighting were new but the floor and tub surround tile were old but it was clean and everything functions well. I should qualify this since they did have to do a bit of a rush job for us to have the apt. ready by the date we required. They are older buildings but also they also have More Space than the newer units we saw elsewhere which cost a bit more. Plus, the layout of the one bedroom unit is great. We visited quite a few mostly new or relatively recent complexes in the vicinity before choosing to live here and are still happy with our choice.
We've had maybe three or four relatively minor problems in the 9 months all of which were promptly taken care of. The AC did go out once but was fixed within a few hours. The maintenance staff is courteous and on the ball.
The Clubhouse has been renovated and includes a work-out room with all new equipment and large flat screen tv. The pool has been updated as well. The laundry rooms have been cleaned up and have all new washers and dryers which use debit type cards which you get from the management(you do pay to use them of course.) They allow pets which is a plus for most people. The parking lot has just been repaved and the sidewalks been repaired. Hopefully some additional landscaping will be forthcoming once the last of the construction crews are done.
As far as the rental price, I don't know where the folks who complained about it were able to do better but we didn't find anything for much lower that didn't look downright scary just driving through the complex. We've felt quite safe here over the last 9 months. There is a real mixture of folks living here from early twenties to probably mid-seventies. We're a bit above the mid-line in that range.
The location is Great! We've never gotten stuck in traffic (we're from metro Atlanta where people literally spend hours every day sitting in traffic). There is just about anything you could want within five to fifteen minutes of the location ... grocery stores, a fresh market, almost any imaginable type of restaurant and fast food, a variety of bars, bakeries, bookstores, clothing stores, record and video stores, theaters (including one that gives you a recent movie a 'real' large drink a medium popcorn ALL for only $4), a variety of bars, etc. ohhh yes and also a mall if you like that kind of place.
All-in-all and fine place to live.
