Trouble from beginning to end

I live in the Willows for about 1.5 years. They had a great deal, and now I see why. We only paid a total of $80 to move in. That included deposit and app fees.

It started off bad from the beginning. We wanted an apt on the 3rd floor w/a fireplace, and they said we could have it. Then, when we showed up to sign the lease, it wasn't available, and we had to move into the ground floor. The office staff said they'd let us know as soon as the one we wanted came open. They never told us anything, and finally after 3 months of me calling, something "just opened up." So we got to move... again. And had to pay all of our connection fees (utilities, cable, etc) again.

When my boyfriend went to pick up the keys the day before we were scheduled to move in to the 1st apartment, he was told the apartment wasn't ready b/c they thought we weren't coming on that day. What' We signed a lease and that was our move in day as listed. I called and let them have it, and the next day we moved in w/the smell of fresh paint.

And don't bother getting a fireplace. After smoking up the apartment 2x, and 2 calls to the office, they finally sent a chimney worker instead of a maintenance man. The chimney worker said the flue was too small for the fireplace, and anything more than a small fire would cause too much smoke. He said it was constructed that way and the problem would never go away.

The gate was broken 90% of the time I was there. I actually preferred it that way b/c apparently no one that lives there knows how to work a freaking keypad. After we moved to the 2nd apt there, they deactivated our pin code and I had to wait for someone coming out to open the gate and let me in.

It is way too close to the interstate. The noise was horrible, especailly trucks, and now the interstate is even closer. While I lived there they were in the process of building a sound wall (which won't help since the spread of the interstate will make the noise louder). Apparently, they pissed off the construction crew, b/c the entire wall was built w/a big gap in front of the complex, and that section was the last to get worked on.

Also, if you happen to face the interstate on the top floor, you get the street lights shining in your windows at night b/c the wall doesn't block them.

The place had a lot of college aged kids that were noisey. I moved off campus to get away from that. There were a lot of trashy people, too, who would yell/fight, play loud music, leave crap/trash blocking the stairs, let their dogs poop on the sidewalk, you name it.

They ran the trash compactor maybe 1x every 2 weeks, and normally the trash was piled so high you couldn't even throw yours on the top. This was disgusting! It smelled and looked horrible!

Parking was sparse and dark. There were times I had to park on the opposite of the community and cut thru the grounds in the middle.

After our lease ran out we were looking for a place to live, and told the office. 1 nice girl (can't remember her name) said 1 month's notice would be OK. Well, when we turned in our 1 month, the new manager (lady after Cindy) said we had to give 2 months and we never got the '1 month OK' in writing. I called and let her have it, and she gave in. They also realized that we weren't paying the extra $50/mo that was supposed to be tacked on after our lease expired, and wanted to charge us backrent! No way!

I didn't have a lot of trouble w/the office people, but if it came down to it, I would be a total b***h and they'd give in. You shouldn't have to act like that to get simple things you were already promised at an apartment complex. For day to day interaction, like saying hi or getting a package, the staff was fine. But there were too many big problems, and the place is waaaaaaay overpriced.

Actually, the compactor is ran daily - it sometimes piles up on the weekend because of people moving in and having extra boxes to dispose of. Also, your comment about the sound wall is somewhat uninformed. The reason the sound wall was left open was to allow TDOT to access the utility easements on the property. As most people know, TDOT is VERY slow at completing any project including the Willows sound wall.
