Comfortable, Safe, Nice place to live

I have lived at the Arbors for 4 years now. I am not renewing my lease this year because I am graduating and moving to a new city for my job. I chose to live at the Arbors after investigating all the properties on the island. As a single female living alone and new to Memphis, I figured that the island would be the safest bet. After touring all the properties I thought that the Arbors was the best value on the island.
I have never had any problem with safety and have ALWAYS felt safe in my apartment. I can walk through the parking lot, check my mail at midnight and never feel unsafe. Whenever there is ANY sort of incident, fliers appear on our doors detailing what happened. I have received such a flier maybe 3 times in four years and it was always petty crime. As for the kidnapping/murder that supposedly took place in 1993... that was THIRTEEN years ago! The island and downtown Memphis have changed drastically in the past 10 years. I can walk around peabody place/Beale at night by myself and feel safe.
I think the grounds are beautiful with lots of trees and gardens. The buildings were all repainted about 2 years ago and look nice. maintenance issues in my apartment were always addressed within 48 hours, and if it was a major plumbing issue, it was resolved very quickly. The office staff is friendly and helpful. The work out room is pretty nice, although only 1 of 3 treadmills works perfectly. Oh well. I have NEVER had a problem with parking. I have no idea what the other poster was talking about. It is really nice for your guests to be able to come over, not need a gate code, and have ample parking.
I think this is a nice, safe, well managed place. In general it is probably over-priced, but so is everything else on the island. Things are booming in downtown Memphis/Mud Island and the prices reflect it!
