Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I lived at Blair Towers for a year. It's right in Midtown (the coolest part of Memphis) and is just a mile from Downtown (Beale and the rest). Overton Square and the Cooper-Young District are just a couple more miles out.
The apartment is superficially appealing- nice paint, classy lobby and foyer, but after living there, you begin to notice the actual age of the building. Leaky garage, moldy ventilation, and EXTREMELY outdated utility metering are just a few. I paid roughly 100-140/month in utilities for a 1BR. Outrageous. My apartment was a perfect size for me and guests. I had new carpet and paint whe I moved in, but had rust stains in the sink and tub and a partially working stove. One great bonus was that the apt came with a stackable W/D. The balcony was surprisingly large compared to those at other apartment complexes. Without a doubt, the worst thing about the apts is the heating and air. You CANNOT control the temp of the air coming out of the vents. You only control if the fan is on or off to blow the air into your room. The building Mgr decides when to turn on the heat or AC according to the seasons. Trash chutes are tres cool. And an absolutely superb workout room to boot.
The maintenance staff were great and friendly- repairs were made in a timely manner. And although I have read other complaints about "the redhead", she was always courteous to me and made every attempt at keeping me happy and a satisfied tenant. They have rotating security guards and a concierge=benefit.
Nice apartments, wonderful staff. But to be honest, the rooms are overpriced and if you see an ad calling them "luxury apts"- it's just not so.
