I have lived in a 2bd/2bath apartment in Canterbury Woods for almost a year now and I will be moving out at the end of my lease.
PROS:
The management was always very nice to me. Everyone thinks they are rude and unfriendly but I have never had a problem. As long as you pay your rent on time, you will be on good terms. Rent is affordable.
Maintanence is always quick to respond. They even work after hours. As soon as you call them, they are at your apartment. They fix the problem as quickly as they can.
My neighbors are very quiet. Most of the tenants here are younger, famalies. They have children and don't usually do the party scene. Or maybe I just got lucky with neighbors.
CONS:
Parking is a hassle. Each apartment is given one covered parking spot. I have a roommate, so we have to share the covered parking spot. When she has the spot, looking for uncovered parking is unbearable. Sometimes I have to park far away from my apartment which I really don't like. The parking lots are not well lit which makes it scary walking to your apartment. I always feel that someone is watching me but I could just be paranoid.
When I first moved in, I noticed a lot of spiders. The apartment does pest control every Thursday so I had them check it out and they told me I had Brown Recluses. Spraying does nothing for recluses. So for a year now, we've been collecting them on sticky traps. Thankfully, I have never been bitten but there is always a chance that I could be. At least pest control was quick to respond to my problem.
CRIME is a big issue out here. There are a few security officers patroling but that doesn't stop anything. My apartment got broken into WHILE I WAS HOME. I caught the burglar walking out with my t.v. and demanded he give it back. He did and ran away. Since then we have not had any break in's but people keep ringing our door bell and claiming 'they got the wrong apartment'. Or knocking on our door at 6:30 a.m. It's really scary and management won't do anything about it. That is the #1 reason why I am moving out. Right after Christmas, an old lady got robbed walking up to her apartment.
My immediate neighbors are quiet but not the neighbors adjacent or across from me. They like to loiter around outside and talk very loudly. It gets very annoying.
All in all, It's an okay place to live but it's NOT safe. But thats Memphis for you.
