I've lived there twice. You can't beat the price per square foot in the downtown area. However, you get what you pay, or don't pay, for at the Edison. Back in the day, it was really nice. Over the years, the onsite sundry store and salon, tennis courts, fitness center, all disappeared as the rental rates decreased. I moved in the first time after management company Makowski & Ringel took possession of the property. Great space, fairly good grounds maintenance and if something breaks, they're pretty good about getting things fixed in a timely manner and YES we did have a security officer. You need one because this is NOT a gated community, and people walking take shortcuts through the property all day and night. It was okay at first, THEN the property managers changed and a woman named Jennifer came to the Edision. Slowly but surely things didn't get fixed as quickly. When I complained about the "seasonal" roaches, as can be expected in a buildng so old and in this part of the country, I just wanted them to get a guy out to spray real good and get rid of them. She asked me if we'd brought them with us because they hadn't had a problem with roaches before. Why try to insult me' Just do your job. And that woman is a liar, many of my neighbors complain of roaches. When we had mold, Jennifer told me to spray bleach on it. I told her to get a professional to come get rid of the mold, a little bleach wasn't going to fix that. Furthermore, I'M not going in that closet. That's what I pay rent for. Finally, I moved out. A few years passed and I needed to move back to the area. Since that time, it seems they had cleaned up their act. Rentals rates still very affordable, new siding on the units, the grounds looked a whole lot better, and most importantly, a new property manager! I rented another unit, not in the same building as before, and hoped for the best. A few months later, guess who came back' Jennifer. This go around, I NEVER saw the security officer. The roaches seem resistant to EVERYTHING. My neighbors are "drug boys", we actually had some sort of mandatory inspection where the Property manager and Leasing agent go through everybody's apartment, some young kids had a VERY LOUD party into all hours of the night and no security ever came to ask them to quiet down, even after 3am, and then the last straw, 3 units got broken into and the only notice they sent out told people about car break-ins and robberies at gunpoint in the parking lot. I hear the crooks got in through people's patio doors even though we have a security bar on it already. I'm buying a gun and I'm moving as soon as possible. This is crazy!
