Overall, the Gilmore offers a nice location and fairly well kept facilities for a price.
The price is steep for the location, considering there are many apartments around the same area on Madison that are much cheaper and just as nice.
I never had any problems from other residents. The area of the building I lived in was fairly quiet. There seemed to be an even mix of younger professionals and older residents with a few college students thrown in the mix. The apartment unit itself was okay. There were a few problems with my unit. The air conditioner developed what I think is mold, and it never was fixed. The kitchen is very small...too small for me. The closet space is nice, some of the largest closets I've seen. The walls are very fragile. Hanging curtains became a large task due to the plaster breaking easily. The painting throughout the apartment was sloppy in places, especially the bathroom. None of the problems made the unit unlivable.
The management can be both helpful and problematic. I've had several maintenance requests that took days (and multiple complaints) to fix, even after I explained the problem was preventing me from using my shower. Most of the time, the staff was pleasant enough, but some times they were rude.
I didn't have any really bad experiences with the Gilmore, but I do think you can find a cheaper apartment with better, more personal management in the area nearby after some searching. If I were staying in Memphis, I probably would have considered changing locations at the end of my lease.
