I'm not sure why some people don't set there alarms and deadbolt their doors personally, but I guess they don't realize that they're living in MEMPHIS, TN!! Theft in Memphis is one of the highest in the entire country.
Anyway, my wife and I love this place. We hear our neighbors occasionally, but come on...it's an apartment! If you're really that concerned about not hearing anything ever, then rent a house!!!!
The back gate is a little screwy, but really that's not that big of a problem. The office staff is as nice to you as you are to them. Pay your rent on time and smile, and they'll treat you like their own kids!
