Different opinions; Some issues

My wife and I have two different opinions of living here. I have enjoyed living here, but she has not. Our apt has backed up to the Nature Center and we have had a few problems with small lizards in the spring and summer. We occasionally see a bug, but it is a rare occurance. I feel very safe here, but my wife does not (the main reason we are moving in about a month). We live on the bottom floor in a revovated 2bd/2ba apt. Our back patio is completely open and she does not feel safe sitting outside on our back patio. The complex is an open complex and people are always walking behind our apt. We wish they would have at least fenced the community when they did the outside renovations last year to help with the issue of people walking behind buildings. Also with the new centralized mail system (instead of the old next to your door mail delivery) my wife doesn't feel safe going and getting the mail by herself. On three separate occasions she has been "hit on". We have also had friends who lived here and had their vehicle broken into--although our vehicles have not been. The other major issue with our moving is maintainance. Our AC unit had a fairly substantail leak when we moved in in early 2002. About every month we would have to call to the freon recharged. The complex people told us they were going to fix it, but never did. It wasn't until the second summer and after we called the managements company's main office did our AC get fixed. (Since that time the complex has changed managment companies.) But even doing this did not cause us any problems with the office staff. They have continued to be very nice to us and have always answered all of our questions and handled all of our other maintainance requests very well. I would choose to continue to live here--great price for a great location. However, like I said, my wife would disagree. If you were to decide to move here, my recomendation would be to make sure you get an apartment as close to the front of the complex as possible. I have heard of fewer problems with those in the front than with those in the back.
