Good manners does not make up for slum apartments

I was tricked into moving into these apartments. The staff are extremely friendly and told me that although the places were old that they had charm and that they would be taken care of and repaired upon request. I found out the hard way that they were completely full of it.

It is true that the places have charm and character but this management company is letting these beautiful old apartments crumble apart. The parking lot is not well kept nor are the stairwells which should tell you what to expect. My ceiling leaked in my bedroom which took months to repair all the while I was forced to sleep in the living room while water leaked into the room. Even now as I move out it is still not completely repaired. There were other repairs I requested which were addressed quicker but the bare minimum is done in order to "fix" a request. Just one example was when the storm window fell apart and came out when I tried to open it. I requested it be fixed and the very next day someone came to place the broken storm window back where it had been before. Needless to say I could not open that window the entire time I lived there.

The staff are extremely friendly but that does not make up for the fact that they are running a slum and refuse to address problems. It is a real shame because these apartments could be a pleasure to live in. I am happy to have moved into an apartment down the street in the same neighborhood for the same rent and less utilities under a company that makes appropriate repairs.

What everyone says about the RUBS utilites is true as well. If there is an empty apartment - you will be paying for those fixed costs (refrig etc) or if someone wants to run the heat on super high - you will be picking up the slack. You will also not be able to control the amount of heat coming into your apartment well. Don't be fooled by the window unit either. Mine only cooled one room (the living room) where I had to sleep for most of the time I lived at the apartment since my bedroom leaked for months and many days it was too hot to sleep in my bed.

I learned my lesson the hard way and now I am forced to pay extremely high fees to break my lease with them so I can live in an apartment where I don't have to worry about an imenent ceiling collapse.
