When we moved in we were never allowed to do a walk through, and our bathroom shower leaked for at least the first six months we were there. While we were there our air broke once (took two weeks of fiddling to fix) and our heat was out three times, the last one being an after hours call which they said they wouldn??t fix unless it was less than 45 degrees outside and hung up the phone, it was just above 35 at the time. The fridge broke shortly after moving in, and we went through three washing machines and two dryers. Maybe if they gave you a new one after the first twenty year old appliance broke, rather than another twenty year old appliance this wouldn't happen. A leak upstairs cause water to pour down in to my sink via a light fixture, and emergency maintenance did not seem concerned. On another occasion someone tried to break in to our apartment while my fianc?? was home, the police came and yet management was nowhere to be found (old management). There have been several car break-ins and muggings, but to the credit of the new management they always let us know when these things happen, of course they don??t actually do anything about it except add a courtesy officer phone number to the newsletter. And there was also an incident involving a rent check they say they never got.

After our lease was up, we never attempted to renew it because we knew rent would go up, but they never contacted us about renewal either. Nearly a year and a half later in the apartment newsletter they said they were charging residents $100 extra dollars a month for not being on a lease. There was nothing in our lease about this, and the lease actually stated that if not renewed it went in to automatic periods of 60 day renewals. I asked the apartment manager about it and she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about, and refused to show me in our lease where it said they could charge us that extra money, and then asked if I wanted to renew our lease (at a significantly outrageously higher rate) or turn in our notice to vacate. Needless to say we found a better place to live (cleaner, bigger, better, cheaper). My mother (used to be a professional housekeeper) and I spent two days cleaning that place top to bottom, it looked better than it did when we moved in. We even steam cleaned the carpet. After waiting nearly two hours for the manager to show up for the final walk through, she said the bathtub wasn??t clean (I bleached it myself, it??s not my fault the shower leaked for six months and they couldn??t figure out how to fix it). She also said she was going to charge us for a missing slat on the vertical blinds, which was never there to begin with, and a missing tray in the oven, which was also never there. She was in such a hurry to leave she didn??t even get our new address to send the remainder of our deposit.

So basically poor management, to rude, spiteful management; it??s no wonder why everyone is moving out and fewer people are moving in. We don??t blame H.M. Heckle, just their poor choice in employees.
