This is the awfulest place to live! I moved out 5 months ago & just now got a call from a collecion agency stating that my former roommates & I owe them $1800 for two months rent after we moved out $100 to have the carpet cleaned! We vacuumed & cleaned that apartment before we moved & they still kept our $350 security deposit & now want more money! They stated that we did not sign a document saying that we would move out, when we did! Not to mention, when we did live there, we could not get any maintennance problems fixed, we went 6 months without a closet door, my dad had to fix my shower/ closet shelves b/c they were falling in.

On top of that, they have the RUDEST management who treat you like you are below them.

Anytime we tried to get something fixed, they treated us like we were being unreasonable for asking & the problem was never fixed! They are obviously in desperate need for money because it took them 5 months to come up with all of these charges against us! Save yourself the time, stress, & having to deal with rude, incompetent people, live somewhere else!

Did you keep a copy of the notice of intent to vacate letter? If so, I would show them that. Also, according to the TN Landlord Tenant Act they only have 10 days to assess damages. If they take longer than that, they are SOL. A place I lived in Cordova tried to charge my roommate and I over $400 in damages 4-5 months after we moved out. I let them know of their violation of the TN Landlord Tenant Act and we ended up settling for $60 worth of damages. Hope this helps.

You really have to know your rights as a renter. These apartment managers prey on people that don't know the law. Always take pictures of the apartment and always keep documentation of the notice etc when you leave a complex. having documentation and knowing your rights as a renter is the key to staying out of a big mess when you vacate an apartment.
