Roaches. Windows not attached to walls. Outside doors that don't open or don't lock. Management that won't fix major issues without threatened with a lawyer.
The side door was broken in 2 days after Xmas. "Security" claimed the burglars came in through the sliding glass door that was barred and not broken, and proceeded to touch everything in the apartment, marring the scene for police. It took them a WEEK to put a new frame around the door (making the door able to LOCK!), and it took the police report, a printout of TN renters' rights laws, and the threat of a lawyer to get it done.
Last night, the apartment kitty-corner behind us caught fire. Firemen said it started in the dryer. (I'm guessing because they haven't cleaned the vents ever, and I put in at least 2 written requests in the last 9 months because I know ours is clogged.) No more than smoke smell in our apartment, luckily. However, the firemen busted our door open to check our apartment. First thing this morning, I called and asked for it to be fixed today. At 5pm, I called again because it hadn't been done yet. The response I got was "Why the hell would we fix your door' Not our problem." I told them that I was going to get someone out here to do it and take if off the rent. When told I couldn't do that, I told them that the law said that they had to provide a SAFE and SECURE material environment, and that the manager could expect a call from the lawyer in the morning, since he wasn't available then. At 8pm, a repairman arrived for a temporary fix. We'll see if we get a new door frame in the monring. Doubt it.
Routine maintenance is ignored on a regular basis, and even when it's not ignored, it's done half-assed and not fixed, just stop-gapped. Oh, and the master bedroom window isn't even in it's frame or connected to the wall in spots.
There is a "good" building or 2, with nice neighbors. The rest of the buildings are falling apart with thieves of various kinds living there.
Don't move here. No matter that the sq feet for the cost looks worth it.
