Code inspectors in Memphis say loose screws led to an elevator door swinging open, sending a toddler plunging to his death.
Three-year-old Xayvion Carlton was with his grandfather on the ninth floor of The Pinnacle apartments Monday night when the boy leaned against the elevator door and fell into the shaft.
Memphis Shelby County Code investigators say a loose plate at the bottom of the elevator allowed the door to open. Allen Medlock, who heads the agency, says the plate was found at the bottom of the shaft and the screws that should have held it were found on the ninth floor, from which the boy fell.

OLD OLD NEWS FROM ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO!!! THE SAME MANAGEMENT COMPANY DOES NOT EVEN OWN THE PLACE NOW. REMEMBER MOST PEOPLE WHO WRITE ALL THE BAD STUFF ON HERE, PROBABLY ARE THE ACTUALLY "SLUMS" AND LOOKING FOR A WAY TO FEEL EMPOWERED BY SAYING UNTRUE REMARKS ABOUT THE APARTMENT BUILDING AND LANDLORD. I DO LIVE HERE TOO AND ACTUALLY IT IS A NICE PLACE FOR THE REASONABLE RENT. I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY AT ALL. I JUST THOUGHT PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT THE POSTING SOMEONE LEFT REGARDING THE ELEVATOR ACCIDENT FROM YEARS AGO. SINCERELY, TENANT WHO LIVES ON 6TH FLOOR.

Does it make it any less harsh or harmful b/c it took place a few years ago? No, believe me his family is still suffering. If there is a stigma attached to the apartments....SO BE IT!
