NIGHTMARE

Years at this apartment: 2006-01-01 - 2007-01-01
My boyfriend and I moved to Whispering Oaks back in September of 2006. We chose the apartment because of the deal that was offered to us. The walls were (I am not joking...) a horrible yellow that was in the dining room, living room, and kitchen...the master bedroom was what we call "Barney" purple...and the spare bedroom was lime green. They told us that if we chose to paint ourselves and take the apartment without countertop renovations, they would knock off a substantial bit of the rent. We were ecstatic...once the walls were painted, it really seemed like home. WRONG. We have had nothing but problems since we've moved in. First off, there is never adequate parking for our area. I don't know if it is just for our area, but I can't even tell you how many times we've had to park at the neighboring apartment complex's parking area and walked because lack of space...and this isn't just on the weekends. Secondly, we have the most inconsiderate neighbors we could have ever thought to have. It never fails...Sunday nights, including week nights as well, music is blasting...it starts at about 12:30 at night and goes on until at least 4 in the morning. I'm a nursing student, and sleep is GOLDEN to me. We've gone over there, begging them to stop, we've called the police on them more than 5 times, and we've reported it SEVERAL times to the office. They do not care, trust me. One of the steps to our apartment (we are on the second floor) broke while I was walking on it...and it took 3 days to fix. On the second day that it was broken, they simply placed a cardboard sign on it...we *still* had to skip the step, which was not easy. Our shower knob broke, which it took them two days to fix...but at least that gave them the opportunity to fix our dishwasher that has been broken SINCE we moved in.
It should have been a HUGE red flag when the first weekend we were here, we threw an apartment-warming. One of our friends wasn't here an hour and his truck was broken into and his stereo system was completely stolen. Oh, and my boyfriend's truck was backed into, leaving a huge dent in his door.
When you move in, they tell you that they do not have a problem with crime. Well, we were sitting in our living room when we heard a large crash. We didn't know what to think until the next day our neighbor below us told us he had been broken into. That is terrifying to know that happened so close.
I know I'm leaving out so much. And I normally wouldn't feel this compelled to write something this long. However, considering I just got home a little after 8 and had to park in the other apartment complex's parking lot YET again and had to walk up a steep hill just to get here, I'm a little ticked. We've made the best of this place as humanly possible, but we are counting down the days until our lease is up.
