Even Iraq can't get you out of your lease...

My husband and I had to break our lease because he was being deployed to Iraq. Of course I thought, maybe this would be an exception, we didn't break our lease on purpose, the government called. However, we had no such luck. I can't tell you how much money we spent getting out of the lease as well as the time involved. The woman was very rude and didn't care at all. She even tried to say we owed more than the penalty charges. Our maintenance complaints took months to get fixed, like the dish washer. Our dish washer didn't work for 2 months. And they wouldn't fix the leaky faucets in the apartment. We heard everything that went on above us and outside. The windows didn't seal properly and the living room was always cold and the bedrooms unbearable warm no matter what temperature setting.

If you truly are in the military and the government did "call", then you would know that before you sign any lease you are protected under the SCRA Lease Termination Provisions. All you have to do is provide your orders and it is illegal for an apartment complex to charge you lease-break fees. I find it hard to believe that anyone in the military isn't completely aware of this though.....
