I just got done with a year at Campus Crossings and all these reviews that say the location is the only thing it has going for it are spot on. There are no other upsides to living here. I actually checked this site a year ago, unfortunately after I had signed my year lease, and even then did not heed any warnings here. I guess there is no way to say this and instill without any doubt in your mind, but please believe that just about EVERY negative thing said about this complex is legitimate. My motivation for writing this is not so much to "save you" from a bad experience as it is to expose Campus Crossings and have their reputation reflect what they are.
I'll start with safety:
There is none. The courtesy officers might just as well be non existant. One of my room mates and I both had our cars broken into. He actually had his back window busted out and over 600 dollars worth of stuff taken from him. Mine was more my fault as I failed to lock my doors, but I still had my checkbook taken from my car in the middle of the day and had fradulent checks written that took me months to deal with.
The SECOND day I moved in I encountered someone walking around the complex selling drugs. 2 Weeks before I moved out another man followed me as I walked from the complex to campus trying to sell me drugs. And these are not the kind of drug dealers you want to deal with, these men were shady and very harrassing.
Sometime in my last month there, around 3 in the morning, I was awakened by a girl being attacked by another girl out in the breezeway, typical for a college apartment, but very annoying given that because I witnessed it, the police came to my door at 4AM and I not only had to take time out of my day to go give a statement but I had to show up to court to testify what I had seen. So if you are thinking its "cool" to see chick fights, let me assure you, its time consuming and will get you involved with the police.
Management:
The management here is a joke. To understand the management at campus crossings you have to understand how serious their lease is and what responsibilities are expected from you as a tenant, then realize that the inner workings of the facility are being handled by college kids.
I had a package lost by the office. I never got it, I still don't know what it was. All I got was an apology from a girl younger than me who was in the office.
My room mate had his move in sheet LOST by the office. This made him responsible for everything that was broken in the common area and his room. He had no recourse in the situation. Just to let you in on what a nightmare at Campus Crossings can become, it cost him over 800dollars in charges to move out. He got stuck with charges from the common area even though all 3 of us in the apartment had the same things down on our sheets, he didn't have a sheet. His parents got involved and still there was NO RECOURSE. I am 100% sure he turned in his Move In sheet because all 3 of us filled them out and turned them in at the same time. It still makes me sick to my stomach that he was charged for things that were already wrong with the apartment. I have heard so many stories of documents being lost. They try to maintain a front of being professional, especially if you are taking a tour there and the way their lease is worded, but that mask soon disappears and you are confronted with an ineffcient, non communicative, and VERY unprofessional beast that will haunt you EVEN AFTER you have moved out.
One of the girls who lived next door to me was an old friend of mine from highschool. She actually subleased her apartment a month early. During the whole process, she found out that the person she had subleased from had actually already paid the months rent that they were trying to get her to pay. It was not until she confronted them did the office come clean about the situation. That is a very shady business practice.
The upper management of the complex are uncaring individuals who understand that because of the location of their apartment complex that people will live there no matter what business practices they use or the way they treat people. There is no escaping being taken advantage of if you live here, the best you can do is overlook it.
The Internet:
The internet is far from highspeed during the school year. There are so many people on the network that gaming is out of the question and even looking up things through a browser is hard. Plus this past year they blocked all torrent sites so forget downloading anything.
The apartments:
The apartments have about as much charm as a doctors office and thats what they feel like. These apartments are designed to be inhabited and then hosed out like a pig pen. The furniture is all cheap and uncomfortable but if you break it, be prepared to pay 3 times what it is worth. All in all there is very little difference between these apartments and dorms, especially if you don't know your room mates.
If you live here, your move out costs will weigh heavy on your mind throughout your stay, at least they did for me, and from stories I've not only heard but been a part of, you don't even have to have done something wrong to get stuck with a massive bill. By signing their lease you are entering yourself into an agreement where you will be taken advantage of and run the risk of having a nightmare of bureaucratic entanglement that may leave your credit destroyed and your wallet empty.

They said I never turned in my move in sheet and charged me 500 dollars for damages that were done before I moved in. I told them I did turn it in but they basically called me a liar.

Well, apparently you and everyone else didn't turn in their move in sheet. They conveniently lost mine and my roommates. I made copies of them because they are known for doing this. But somehow I can't find them because I just moved! They have charged everyone I've talked to for around $500. Basically what happened was it was time for the apartments to replace things that need to be replaced and they feel the need to charge us for these repairs, which is completely unacceptable. The best advice I can give you is to turn it over to a lawyer. That's what we are in the process of doing right now. They also say that you have to dispute the damages before September 11 or they will turn you over to the collection agency. I e-mailed them as soon as I received the damage letter and they haven't gotten back to me yet! That place was awful...too many bad things go on there and no one there cares!
