I lived in the gables for the 05-06 school year. I lived with two people I knew and the fourth bedroom was just left empy and locked for the first 7 months. Overall, it's an alright place but I wouldn't reccommend it. My problems:

1. In march we got a fourth roomate. She was a nightmare. First, she brought bugs with her, roaches (that's a whole nother problem) then she decided to give her boyfriend a key; the office staff took care of it by simply replacing the locks but the management did not say anything to her. She invited him over 24/7 and to spend the night, he was creepy and she never warned us or asked. THey argued constantly, our apartment sounded like an episode of Springer. She was a mess and when we complainined, management said they'd talk to her but it just didn't happen. I think she could've been screened better, there were numerous problems with her.

2. When we got there, there were no bugs, after our 4th roomate brought them with her in her furniture, we couldn't get rid of them. We complained numerous times and it always took managment a while to get pest control there. My breaking point was when i found a dead 3 inch roach on it's back in my kitchen pantry. Still, nothing.

3. Just last week I got a call from the gables telling me I owed them $73.60. WHAT ON EARTH'! yeah, for "pet treatment" and stains beyond repair they had to replace carpet. Yeah, I had no pets and we cleaned the carpets before we moved out.. we cleaned that apartment all day and it was very clean. I have heard of two other friends in the apartment that have the same issue.

4. Every 4 months I had to pay another bill for electricity because we had gone over. I read this on another review before I moved in but just thought those people didn't know how to run a household. Wrong! We kept watch on our electricity but still. We had numerous problems with the other company that handles the overages and they just are idiots, the numbers didn't add up. We, all three of us, argued with them and the management.

5. Not that it matters too much, but they repainted them in June and they're UGLY, just horrible.. I haven't found a person who likes the colors.

6. One of the toilets overflowed and it took maintenance a while to fix it. They're just college students, not fabulous but they can get the job done. I saw no major problems, however there were minor ones.


**It is a fantastic price
**I liked the apartment itself. Ours was clean, our neighbors weren't so bad.
**It is a college town so everywhere has parties, every weekend our neighbors would have music on til 1 or 2; not bad. There was someone held at gunpoint in october of 05 right outside our building but I do believe they decided it was drug deal related. Again, most every apartment in the boro.
**Their internet worked pretty much all the time
** Fitness center, interent area, and pool were all kept nice and clean.
** Great location, walmart, Dairy Queen, Zaxby's, and numerous other places across the street.


There are pleanty of other options, we picked this over University Courtyard because they have a registered sex offender there, plus there was a shooting and I believe someone was killed' Although I have a friend who got a great deal at College Suites. Look elsewhere, because the Gables is not the BEST choice.

My son has lived in these apartments the last 2 years. He and his roommates have had many problems from the beginning with noisy tenants to maintenance issues. The police have even needed to be called on occasion. I realize that this is a college apartment, but many of the tenants have jobs and require sleep and to be woken up pretty much every morning is rediculous. I have not had the opportunity to speak to the apartment management, but my husband has and he also do not respect their treatment of their "customers".
