Beware of Living at the Grove

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
The Grove Whitworth office staff were uncourteous and difficult to deal with in my time as a resident there. When we originally moved in and were asking questions regarding terms in the lease the staff could not answer many of our inquiries and provided insufficient information when they did answer such questions.
For example, the complex requires that you have the gas turned on at all times when living in the apartment including in the summer months when we did not reside there. This ended up wasting close to $400 a year in gas bills. We were told we had to keep it on to prevent the pipes from freezing and there was no negotiation about it. You do the math, do pipes freeze in 90 degree weather during the summer'
Not only did the office staff not provide answers but they were upset at us for even asking such questions and treated my roommates and myself with much disdain.
For 2 years, we also had an air conditioning unit that leaked onto our carpet that was never fixed and problems with our dryer that were never taken care of. However, the biggest slap in the face came when we moved out of the premises.
We all moved out in the middle of May and our lease was over at the end of the month. After we moved out, the Grove sent in employees to do maintenance on the hot water heater and air conditioning unit in our apartment. During this time, marks appeared on our carpeting which were not there when we vacated the apartment. Although we were not involved in causing this damage, the complex charged us for the damage. When we attempted to explain what we believed had happened they wanted to hear nothing of it and threatened to send us to collections. They also failed to bring any of this to our attention until they knew that we were no where in the state nor could we return to the state because we had graduated and had moved throughout the country.
Once again, the staff was rude and would not listen to anything we had to say. So basically they caused the damage and we had to pay for it.
As others have written the front gate is broken at least half the time and there were times I was unable to enter the complex because the gate refused to open. There were other times that the gate almost shut on my car which would have caused severe damage.
Also, from a security prospective, I know there was at least one mugging in the complex when I was there. A woman was jumped going into her apartment by an assailant in the many bushes in the complex.
Because of the price and the uncourteous office staff I would highly reccommend that those seeking a fine living experience look elsewhere or you will regret your decision.
