Archstone was better

I've been a tenant at this place for 3 years. I came in when it was known as Archstone and back then, it was great. But ever since Mission took over, the place has been horrible.

Maintenance is especially horrible. If you have a problem, it takes them 3 to 4 days to even respond, but then it's never fixed once they actually come. However, if it's not a problem of mine but they have to come in my apartment, they never knock, they simply unlock the door and let themselves in. Today, they came in while I was sleeping and showed no consideration. Water leaks are extremely common. Once every 2 weeks or so they come in, move my washer and dryer around, bust out the drywall to fix it, leave not only their nasty footprints all over the carpet, but then leave the entire mess they created and then say "We'll get someone to come clean this and drywall it back up". After this, it takes usually 2 phone calls to the front office to get someone up here and the average time for that takes about a week. So I get to enjoy drywall pieces all over my "laundry room" and footprints all over the carpet.

The staff here do a great job in ACTING like they care, when they don't. They'll do whatever it takes to get you off the phone, even if it takes lying to you. Scott, the manager here who's delt with us since Day 1 back when it was Archstone, used to care but had seen us so many times that he could care less anymore.

Packages. The staff also accepts your packages and then NEVER notifies you. I had a Dell laptop delivered several weeks ago but I received no tracking information from them. So, come to find out, my apartment decided to accept and sign for MY computer and they let it sit in their office for over a week and NEVER notified me. When I said something about it to a chubby blonde that works in the office, I was met with a smart-alek response of "well it's not our responsibility to notify you. If DHL doesn't leave a sticker on your door then you need to call them." I reminded her that if my property had been stolen, then it would be on their head, not DHL's. I guess they get real busy while they're eating the free cookies and watching TV all day.

The buildings here are very old, from the 70's, and have never been revamped. A couple months ago there was a massive painting of all the buildings and now a couple are an ugly green while others are the color of vomit.

Parking is horrible. There's never enough parking spaces for everyone, so you see cars parked all over the roads & grass and it's hard to get by. There's been many of times where I've simply honked my horn in the parking lot for 15 minutes until the owner of the car who was blocking me came out and moved it. You're lucky if you get a parking space here.

Noise-wise there's constantly loud rap music coming from cars outside. The walls and ceilings are not noise-secure because anytime my neighbors play music, I can hear it. My neighbors upstairs seem to jump up and down on the floor alot of days, at least that's what it sounds like. It makes the whole building shake. Not to mention my neighbor loves playing rap music early in the morning. Good luck getting sleep in this place. If my neighbors have a loud conversation, we get to hear it all. We also get to hear every single person that comes up the stairs and what they're talking about.

Leaks. ALL THE TIME! It was so bad at one point that we started taking pictures of all the leaks. We had about 8 locations of leaks that were causing mold to grow. We believe my wife gets sick at least once a week because of this mold but have not pursued a laywer because we were told it would be very hard to prove. All they do for mold problems is clean it with bleach. But, they don't actually FIX THE LEAK. So, the mold comes right back.

Need an example' Here ya go....
We had a leak inside the wall that we believe started around August '07. This is the SAME LEAK they're still trying to fix TODAY when they barged in and woke me up. Except now the tenant below us is complaining. To fix this problem, it took TWELVE (12) calls for maintenance to actually get the mold out of the entire wall. The mold was so bad that there were WORMS stuck to the wall. We told them every single time when they came up, that there was a leak in the wall but they insisted there was not (because they were too lazy to bust through the wall to fix it) and simply bleached the wall everytime which left the apartment smelling horrible for the rest of the day. Only for us to call back in 2 weeks for the same problem.

Under our kitchen sink, the leaks were so bad that the plywood become deformed. Instead of tearing that out and replacing it, they just nailed another piece of plywood right over the top of it. So, the mold will still be there, obviously; and so is the leak.

Safety. Would I feel safe going for a walk when it wasn't complete daylight outside' Absolutely not. Out of the 3 years we've lived here, the light outside our apartment in the breezeway has worked for about 6 months. The rest of the time, it's complete darkness coming up the stairs at night. If I remember correctly, we've heard a total of 7 gunshots (no, it wasn't fireworks or car backfires)

BUGS. I kill an average of 4 spiders/bugs that are the size of my hand per day. They come from everywhere, under the door, in the cabinets, in the vents.

Shocks. If you enjoy ythe shocks in your car, I wouldn't live here. Just to get into the complex, you are required to go through a gate (that's broken 6 out of 7 days) and over EIGHT (8) speed bumps. So anytime you have to go in or out you have to go over those speed bumps, which ruins the shocks on your car. Prepare to feel every pebble you run over on the road.

My lease is up in a couple months and my wife and I cannot WAIT to get out of here. We would've broke the lease alot sooner but circumstances in our situation made it difficult. I would not recommend living at this complex to anyone, even my enemies. Ever since Mission took over, the staff quit caring, maintenance shows up after a week or two of requesting service, and rent prices skyrocketed. I'm paying $300 more for rent than I did 2 years ago.

DO NOT LIVE HERE!

P.S. - 4/15/08 - To give you all an update. For those that think calling the Corporate office resolves anything, I'm here to reassure you that you're wrong, at least when it comes to this place. I called Corporate and someone came to look at my apartment. She went through the entire place trying to justify every complaint I had and tried to brag on how well she thought maintenance did. I guess taking 2 weeks to fix EVERY problem is normal for this place. For all the leaks, she tried to claim they were normal. I guess having mold in the apartment is normal to Mission. The only positive to take away from this was they gave us HALF off ONE month of rent, that's it.

So, know that for this complex, even calling their Corporate office will get you no results. If you decide to move into this place, good luck to you and God be with you because you're going to be miserable.
