going downhill

When I first moved to Riverfront in August of 2002, it was fine if noisy. The apartments on either side aren't so bad due to the firewalls, but there is virtually no insulation above and below, so you can hear conversations, televisions, music, video games, and the kind of intimate activity you'd probably rather not hear.

During my two year stay, the clientel got worse and worse. Lots of noisy and inconsiderate students moved in -- several were evicted because they were unbelievably loud and crude. Long-term residents began leaving in droves because the quality of living started sliding downhill.

The covered parking area acts as a sound shell, and there is lots of noise from people coming home drunk at very late hours. People have loud conversations at all hours, and they reverberate into your bedroom. Many residents are quite rude about this. The trains are loud but somehow never bothered me; ditto the early morning trash collection. But people noise was constant and annoying. Titans games are quite loud, too.

Getting around downtown (to and from the apartments) is tricky sometimes, especially during the summer when Nashville thinks it's a theme park and closes off lots of streets.

The place seems to have slid during the time I was there, and I really can't recommend it. As someone else commented, it really isn't downtown, and the shopping options are limited -- one bad Kroger store and a pretty good Eckerd nearby. There is the Farmer's Market, which is nice, but that's about it.

If you work downtown and can't afford one of the nicer places, Riverfront would work, but don't expect a high quality experience. And virtually no one picks up after his or her dog, so for heaven's sake don't walk barefoot on the grounds!
