Cool old building and awesome location

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
I stayed in SC for a year, and enjoyed my time there. It wasn't perfect, I have yet to find a place that is, but for me the pros far outweighed the cons, and if I ever move back to Nashville I will stay there again.
The Pros:
The location of these apartments was great, within walking distance of Hillsboro Village and Belmont and Vanderbilt university. Right outside the front door there were several small restaurants and cafes. The building itself was old, almost 100 years old, which gave it part of its charm since it had hardwood floors in every room, tile in the bathroom, ceiling fans, a gas stove, and a clawfoot tub. The ceilings were high and the windows let in a lot of light. I didn't stay in one of the newly redone apartments, but many of the units have been recently renovated and have all new cabinetry and appliances. All the porches overlooked a very pretty courtyard with trees and flowerbeds, which was also a great place to spread out a blanket and have a picnic on a nice day. I lived in a ground floor apartment and felt quite safe; I never had any trouble with break-ins or vandalism, and never heard of anyone else in the complex having a problem while I was there. Towards the end of my stay they redid the entry hallway, and it looks very nice now. The management was super friendly, and Amy was willing to help with anything I needed.
Cons:
Since this was an older building it had window mounted air conditioning units and radiators instead of central heating and cooling. This was usually fine, but it meant that if there was extreme weather outside the apartment could get a little warmer or cooler than desired. Oddly, one room in my apartment (the foyer)had no electrical outlets in it, so even though there was room for a small table I couldn't put any lamps or my fish tank in it. The parking lots were mostly gravel rather than paved, and during a heavy rain some pretty big mud puddles had a tendency to form. Also parking was fairly limited, so if you came home at a late hour there was a chance it would be full and you would have to try and find street parking.
Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a building that has a lot of character and is not super modern.
